My name is Ryan and I am currently studying at Cardiff University. During the summer months of 2019, I have to complete a dissertation. For this I have decided to research how football supporters travel to football games. As a result of this I have produced a survey on the matter and will be extremely grateful if you can complete it for me. It will take less than 5 minutes. Here is the link https://4eyes.io/s/79B6Z/ and thanks for your time.
Ryan, I’m not sure if your survey really captures real motivation behind our behaviour. It seems quite environmentally centric - which is fine - but many of my reasons for not walking or taking public transport isn’t because I don’t care about the environment - it’s for other reasons which your survey doesn’t capture. I live in Swindon, so I have to use some form of mechanical transport to attend a home game. I choose the train wherever possible because it’s cheaper and it means I can have a beer without the worry of driving. Walking or cycling is not really an option. When I go to away games, I combine them with family or friend visits, so I go up the day before and stay overnight - sometimes for 2 nights and make a weekend of it. On those occasions I tend to drive - because I can leave the car where we stay and have a drink anyway. My most regular away game is Forest and we visit an old friend of the wife when we go there. Again, walking or cycling isn’t an option.
Ryan, I have completed the survey for you but largely agree with bcfcredandwhite. I live in Notts so travelling to home games is not very convenient. Our son lives in London so we take the opportunity to visit whilst I take in a game there. Living in the Midlands I can easily access a number of clubs where I have the choice of travelling by car or train. The deciding factor is invariably whether I will spend too much time hanging around on cold station platforms or not.
My travel is by car to the Portway then bus which is laid on by City and First Bus. So it looks like I’m driving all the way there.
