Thank you for the explanation. So in essence it can work for or against the batsman/bowler, depending on the original decision.
The referral is not 100% accurate...there is a certain element of guesswork so seems reasonable to give some power to the experienced umpire and go with what he felt he saw
Sport is dynamic, especially cricket. Even if the umpire had only & correctly given 5, who’s to say Stokes wouldn’t have gone even more gung-ho & won in the 50ovs. Same for the super over. If we’d got less or more than the 15, NZ alter their approach & could have again matched or not. By the rules, WE WON - even if the umps & virtually every player made a small but not insignificant mistake during the game.
Talk about not picking players from counties who are in good form. Not one Essex player in the squad to play Ireland nor the pre-Ashes. Yet two bowlers from the bottom two counties find a place. Broad, based on past form, and Olly Stone.
Alsop must have recovered from his injury, because he's named in the squad for our t20 opener. Might be the first time we've ever not gone with two overseas players; can't say that I wholly understand the logic why we haven't found a second, but hey ho. Rilee, Donald, Vince, Northeast, Alsop, Dawson, Morris, Fuller, Wood, Abbott, Crane is my guess - although Alsop could probably end up anywhere in the top seven. We're the live Friday game on Sky btw.
Edited my post before seeing yours. And weirdly, my edit answers your question. No Archer for Sussex.
Which, by the way, opens the door for Topley to probably make his Sussex debut. Against us. Of course it had to be.
Also no Carey and no Jordan for Sussex. (And Burgess can't fill in for Carey, because they loaned him out in the expectation that they wouldn't need him!)
A D/L game has about the same chance of happening as a full 20 over game. No chance whatsoever. Just a case of when they call it off.
All day the worst forecast has been for around 8pm to 9pm. I'm not reading anything into the current plans. That said, if we get it a shortened game certainly favour us in my view (if Rilee and Donald come off for just a few overs, that could be that).
