A cautionary note to our young guns in Danny Mills' comments on Sam Byram: “I think he moved too early. I think he wasn’t quite ready to step into a Premier League first team and then his career went backwards a bit. He’s a very, very good player, I rated him very, very highly. A good attacking full-back, still with things to learn and to improve upon, but he went to West Ham and didn’t really play enough. Then he picked up an injury and his career stalled a little bit. His career’s almost been on hold for three or four seasons. A lot of players jump ship very, very early, moved to a Premier League club for a big wage increase but then you don’t play and if you’re not careful your career can be paused or go backwards a little bit. I feel as though that’s what happened to Sam Byram.” Perhaps Sam will have a word with Jamal, Max, Ben, Todd and now Adam as well.
An excellent podcast with a lot of fair and balanced comment. The three contributors are all very professional in their approach. About the only thing I would take issue with is the comments about Pukki. It really doesn't make a lot of sense to suggest that last season was "a purple patch'. I think that it is far more likely that Farke brought out something in him that was there but hitherto untapped. Many of his finishing touches were the sort of goals that it's difficult to defend against however good a player you are.
I agree completely. For me it's that continuing improvement under DF as well as in the Finland team. It's also down to our tactics and the support our attacking players give him. As Teemu said at the national awards ceremony, "it's easy to score goals for Norwich". His scoring rate for Finland suggests that he won't be daunted by the PL.
Adam Idah is like another new signing, looking good in his 15 minute cameo on Sunday and then becoming the star of the show in his 75 minutes against SC Bonner yesterday. On his first goal: "Roberts was pivotal to City's opening goal in the ninth minute, driving infield to slot a perfectly weighted pass for the unmarked Idah who turned and fired in the same motion past Omerbasic from just inside the penalty area." And for the second: "City went back in front through an excellent Idah finish, getting across his marker five yards out to guide Heise's inviting centre past the diving Omerbasic following a clever step over from Srbeny to Leitner's pass." Idah also put in some fine support work to set up chances for others. Very promising indeed, as were the assists from new boys Heise and Byram. It was also good to see Cantwell get 45 minutes in the second half.
Lys Mousset from Bournemouth to SUFC looks like going through for something like £10m. 5 goals in 71 appearances for Bournemouth, after one good season in the second tier of French football. He's a good age and been stuck behind Wilson and King at Bournemouth, but, that's some fee.
Looks like Spurs have given up on trying to sign Max. spurs.vitalfootball.co.uk/explained-why-tottenham-failed-to-sign-max-aarons/ Good if that's true. Meanwhile Oliveira is said to be set for a medical at AEK Athens: "Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira is set for a medical with AEK Athens ahead of his permanent move to the Greek giants. According to Sdna, via Sport Witness, Oliveira will travel over to Greece on Thursday to undergo a medical and complete his transfer to the club. The report claims that Oliveira has already agreed personal terms with Athens and will put pen to paper on a three-year deal. He is due to earn €1m-per-season from his contract." https://readnorwich.com/2019/07/17/oliveira-set-for-medical-with-aek-athens/
Fantastic News - Max Aarons has signed a 5 year contract with City https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2019/july/max-aarons-signs-new-five-year-contract-with-norwich-city/
No, not yet. Work has been so busy, plus wedding and family things have just been mad the last few months. Will have a look at the fixtures after this weekend is out of the way.
Great news about Max's new contract. If that isn't a statement of intent then what is? Can't wait to see him in the PL!
Max on his new contract: "Credit to the boss for giving me the opportunity to play every week. It has given me a lot to learn in a tough league, the Championship is a hard league with a lot of games. It's made me stronger. I've come on a lot as a player - when I watch my first game back at Ipswich to now, my game has developed a lot. As a player, you want to test yourself at the highest level. What better way to start away at Liverpool and it will be a challenge but there is more to be gained. We'll go there with confidence and everyone had felt good in pre-season. By the time that first game comes, we'll be ready." Give 'em hell Max!
Just need a CDM and another CB now and we are looking good for next season! I know we have Trybull, but Tettey is our only real back up for CDM and I wouldn't feel confident if Trybull got a long term injury! We also have 3 good CBs but as we have seen in preseason, a couple of injuries leaves us VERY light, unless the young Belgian lad can step up (which looks unlikely given his statement the other day about going out on loan).
Fair point bc, but I'm pretty sure Thompson (when he's not injured) is a CDM. There was a story in the EADT the other day re the University of Suffolk working with NCFC to make our players fitter and less prone to injury, so let's hope that works.
The club may be holding back on a loan for Bushiri until the situation with Zimbo and Godfrey is resolved. He was playing in the top Belgian division and could provide good cover. Another possibility is a CB/DM player like Semi Ajayi at Rotherham or Krystian Bielik of Arsenal, who was linked with us last year.
Come on Stuart, let's get this one signed up and put this window to bed as far as incomings are concerned. Plus, with respect,. as it's Rotherham, any fee & wages should be within a manageable budget - and it solves cover / first choice in two crucial positions at once
