Stephen Colbert brings a little light relief and explanation: Look, it's the Late Show, so it's obviously late. Goodnight.
If a General Election is called, how can anyone in their right mind vote for someone (Johnson/Hunt) who has nothing in common with the vast majority of the UK public? Corbyn may not be the most charasmatic or brilliant of leaders, but at the moment I would trust him far more than the so-called Conservative party.
I'm not a fan of Corbyn's style of leadership and some of the practices he has implemented into the Labour Party but he is essentially a decent man who wants to tackle "burning injustices" in UK society at present. For May and Tory Party of all people to try and brandish him a racist really takes the biscuit. Windrush was on May's watch as Home Secretary and Boris has openly used racist descriptions of other races before. There is an undercurrent of Islamaphobia in their party too. I would rather see a new Labour leader as the anti-Semitism issue has overshadowed them for too long and has undoubtedly damaged Corbyn's standing in the country, fairly or not. Criticising Israel's treatment of Palestinians does not make you anti-semite and I do not consider myself to be one either.
I was born in 1960. The world of politics has always been ****e but since I was born there seems to have been a gradual realisation of what was needed to improve the lot of the people and the planet. Since 2016 the dive into absolute mayhem and the destruction of all I have believed in is astonishing. I have literally shuddered as I've read the stuff that Trump and Johnson have said. Today I'm cringing as Trump posts his latest tweets. No, I'm actually scared. I'm not that worried about Boris because he will probably ensure that there's a new Brexit referendum although I'm not sure of the new result. Here's Trumps last 2 tweets: Donald J. Trump New Poll: The Rasmussen Poll, one of the most accurate in predicting the 2016 Election, has just announced that “Trump” numbers have recently gone up by four points, to 50%. Thank you to the vicious young Socialist Congresswomen. America will never buy your act! #MAGA2020
At the risk of repeating myself, anyone who has any knowledge of the rise of the Nazi Party, and before that the Fascist Party in Italy, will recognise the signs. Find a scapegoat over which you can unite the disaffected in society, build an imaginary future which has no basis in reality, hark back to a mythical “Golden Age” which most of those old enough to actually remember it never want to return to, and lace it all with strong racist overtones. I’m scared too, as anyone with any shred of common sense should be.
Tis true . The left hates the white man and the 1% although its full of their fav pop, sports, movie and TV personalities, the right hate anyone that look different to them, The Nazies hated everyone that did not look like Manuel Neuer , the communists hated old money and anyone with new money, and anyone with individual thought. Not sure who Italian Fascists hated (probably themselves). I like it here in the middle where its warm and fuzzy
Probably wrong, but does Britain not have a vice or backup to the Prime Minister, pretty sure that the leader of the Libs had this role about 10 years ago
Just listen to some on the left and its all the fault of the white man, even calling for harm to be done to the white man
"Anyone" on the left?...that's a mighty sweeping generilisation right there. You're just showing your own prejudices there IMO.
There is an undercurrent of Islamaphobia in their party too. Not sure that it can be called an undercurrent when 60% of their members consider Islam a threat to the nation. More like the main current, surging through the middle whilst sweeping out to the edges in an attempt to pick up any stragglers. I can’t really comment on the anti semitism row, as I haven’t followed it closely enough, but I do feel that it is being fuelled and kept in the public eye, purely for political reasons in an attempt to destabilise Corbyn and the Labour Party, as their last manifesto really did appeal to the masses and threatened to unseat the Tories. A week or two back the BBC 6 o clock news spent 5 minutes covering an anti semitism item. The same day, on ITV, the same issue was covered in two sentences. The bottom line is that the right wing media and the BBC, which is pretty much right wing as well now, are doing all they can to keep the Tories in power, and they don’t care how they do it.
If you will forgive a Norwich fan for intruding on your site. I have worked for Labour man and boy for more than fifty years, including being a councillor from 1986 until 2004. I have just joined the Lib Dems. I represented a twee little seaside town in Suffolk that had never been anything but Tory until I won it by 29 votes in 1990. In 1994 I beat The Tories by 500 in a straight fight. This year Labour gained just over 100 votes there compared to my 1550. This is down to Corbyn and his procrastination. The guy is a total incompetent. The hard left always have felt that having power somehow dirties their hands. To me politics is about pragmatism. Good luck for 2019/20 except against us!
I can only assume this is a piss take as most lefts are white, none of the pop, sports, movie stars etc are in the top 1%, Hitler looked nothing like Manuel Neuer and communism kind of turned into fascism and died out about 30 years ago. Where your middle is I have no idea but it's not where my middle is!
Beyond Rasmussen having a consistent partisan lean of several points (they were off by about 10 points in the 2018 election), it's hilarious how often he's repeated the same thing about his poll numbers soaring to 50%:
I am sorry, totally true, my mistake with that sweeping statement. I think it is safe to say that there is a very small % on the left that have bigotry towards other people, same could be said for people on the right. the vast majority of people would class themselves as centre left or centre right and would agree on 80% of topics. unfortunately its the very vocal extreme voices that get heard because its good for TV ratings. Pretty sure that if you and I answered 10 questions that are important to you, our answers would not differ that much (unless you are one of the extreme on either side) , yet the press would try to separate us and call one of us some name
He is probably not an anti semite. He is just not very good at anything really. McDonnell is a much better organiser and Labour would at least have a chance with him.
