It seems this has been developing under the radar for a couple of weeks. I'm sure he's been checked thoroughly but none of the injuries seem to be recurring ones or career threatening. SW wouldn't go for a four year contract if he was concerned.
decent player, not really sure what our managers saw in Zabaleta over Byram tbh. Possibly his lack of discipline, he gets a lot of yellow cards.
Other West Ham fans seem to feel we've got a bargain: https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/07/16/west-ham-united-fans-react-to-sam-byrams-move-to-norwich-city/
I didn't realise how low the fee was, thats a ****ing give-away. typical West Ham, pay over the odds for players and then flog them for peanuts.
Listened to this on podcast this morning. Don't know incase any of you guys were interested in a listen. I like Tifo they do really good tactic and player analysis. This one has the two lads from Not The Top 20 podcast, who focus on Championship and League 1 and 2. If you only want to hear them talk about Norwich. Skip to about 27:30.
Really like Tifo, although I feel for a "Sensible Transfers" podcast, it was a bit odd that they didn't suggest any targets for any of the clubs. It was more just a general chat about their summer recruitment and predictions for the season. Would have liked to have heard who their stat-fiends thought would make a good addition for Norwich. The description of Drmic as a target man, someone to hold the ball up, was a bit of a surprise for me. Haven't seen that description anywhere else.
I was also disappointed in the lack of transfer targets, and that the stat man wasn't in the video. They have started going through individual Premiership teams on youtube videos where they break down how they play, how they did last season, where they were weak, and who would be great buys. I have really enjoyed those videos. Hopefully they do one for Norwich. Not just the big teams.
I'm also a fan of Tifo, who dig below the surface and back up their evaluations with tactical analysis and statistics. The podcast is fair in the main, but they were rather superficial about Pukki. A 30 goal scorer in the Championship isn't going to suddenly lose it in the PL. He'll score fewer, certainly, but that should at least 15-20. They went back to Celtic days ages past but didn't mention his scoring for Finland over the past season. I also question the 'target man' description of Drmic. He leads the line, but also has clever movement and good pace. The key will be how he interacts with the other attacking players. Strikers depend on that and Pukki has thrived on it. Hopefully Drmic will as well. The assessment of the defence was about right, though it was pre Byram. Given that he can also play CM, I wonder if Byram might be an option at DM. I think they're right that the number 10 position might drop deeper in the PL, which would suit Stiepi as well as Leitner, Vrancic and McLean, especially as DF is now talking about the possibility of three at the back. This tactical analysis of us halfway through last season was spot on and showed them at their best. https://www.tifofootball.com/video/norwich-city-tactics-under-daniel-farke/ Further down, there's also a clever review of our 1992-3 season when we finished third in the old First Division. In my most optimistic moments I have visions of something like that happening again. If only!
If you wouldn't mind cutting out the expletives if you post on here again it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
If Bryams stays injury free we could have a good player but giving him a 4 year deal seems a bit risky. Hopefully not another Jarvis . £750k for a 25 year old seems like a steal
It was a joke , the guy only ever replies calling me names . We are a fairly family friendly content board to be fair.
At least according to transfermarkt/whoscored, Byram has no history of playing in the middle of the park? In his recent interview, Farke mentioned him potentially being wide midfield cover, but I'd be surprised to see him central. There's a very quiet "ITK" account on twitter who seems to be very careful with their words, but seems convinced we have a DM signing in the pipeline who will displace Trybull. Curious if that comes to pass. Agree with Tifo that Stiepermann might have to drop deeper, or be replaced with a more defensive minded player against big teams. We'll have to see on that. Hopefully it doesn't leave Pukki isolated. It was interesting their assessment that Sheffield United need to adjust their playing style the least, Villa the most.
A 25 year old ENGLISH player lets not forget. That’s an absolute steal if he stays fit. He’s got PL experience and played a lot in the championship. Players of his ability go for at least 10times the fee we have paid
Re Byram and others, DF/SW put a lot of faith in their medical staff. Let's hope he stays healthy, I'm unsure about this one.
A great signing on paper but that recent injury record is a worry. On the one hand he probably wouldn't be available to us if uninsured, but you look at Jarvis Thompson and the rest of the game and there are many players who just always breakdown. I questioned the extension to Thompson and the length and price of Byrams contract makes me nervous too. Hoping both have good long injury free spell and help us kick on, because both have the potential to do so. Bah!
"Coventry City have joined the race to sign Rangers' forward Glenn Middleton". Has it all gone wrong for the lad? This from the Scottish Sun.
It does seem to be the case. He played for the first team a couple of times, but then just faded from the scene. I'm hopeful that a move may reignite his career.
Just looked him up and he's barely had any first team involvement since January. Wasn't in the squad for their Europa league qualifier in Gibraltar either. Seems like we was meant to go on loan to League One Doncaster until a change of manager upset that deal.
