For most of the day I was lamenting the slow pitch as it was ruining the spectacle for all the fly-by-night spectators who cricket was opening up to today. A 300+ game is not as entertaining to most proper fans but to people just watching as a one off match it's clearly more exciting to have the ball flying to the boundary. In the end the game turned into a belter that all could appreciate.

Williamson was the better captain though, overs 10-20 England allowed NZ to score too many easy runs whereas in the same period when England was batting NZ closed the scoring options beautifully. NZ deserved to win to day but we won so who cares. We are the best one day side in the world anyway so it's not like it's a total fluke.

3 Durham academy lads come through for England again (Stokes, Wood and Plunkett) - a special thanks to the ECB for shafting us as always.

A special thanks to Australia for injuring Dhawan for us and weakening our main opposition to win the world cup.

The only (incredibly minor) negative was that it had to be NZ losing. Imagine beating India or Aus on the last ball of a super over after the jammiest of jammy final overs to nick a tie. I’d probably have died.

I’m sure there are far bigger fans of the sport on here than me but they seem a likeable side. Greater than the sum of the parts and all that.

NZ in cricket (perhaps not rugby as I don't really follow the sport) must be the most likeable team for a neutral.

    Sri Lanka!

Never had an issue with the Kiwi's though, at all. The only international team I've never actually seen in a test, it's just occured to me. (I'm not counting Bangladesh or Zimbabwe)

Watching the highlights again on C4!
