A big hats off to the Kiwis They most definitely did not deserve to lose. The freaky overthrows off Stokes bat seems very wrong to me.
It was a great game of cricket (as well as the tennis). Well done to England! But for NZ to lose a “World Cup Final” on the number of boundaries scored, just does not seems like “cricket”. It is as if the World Cup Final were finally resolved on the number of corners. Surely another set of overs each would have been fairer?
Played a lot of cricket in my youth and would have bet good money that if an incoming throw hit a batsman it would be deemed a “dead ball”.
You are 100% wrong. As long as he doesn't change direction to get in the way it counts. Stokes wasn't even looking in the direction of the throw and was diving in. Very lucky. World Champions!
I think we all get the rules Col but the fact we got a draw through a freaky 6 runs when stokes dived in and the ball hit his bat and went for 4 overthrows then drawing the super over but winning on boundaries scored on a game that was already a tie, you gotta feel for the Kiwis.
Yep. I bet most on here that have followed cricket did. It doesn't matter anyway. England have won the greatest ever World Cup final. The Kiwis were fantastic and deserved to win too, but someone has to lose. Let's give England some credit eh?
Congrats, have followed the cricket as a diversion on holidays here in Tuscany. The rollercoaster has at last paid a dividend for you long suffering fans. I know feck all about cricket but the emotional journey that you have travelled has been entertaining to follow poolside. A shout out for my fellow countryman Eoin Morgan .
We were dead and buried when we needed 23 off 9 balls but somehow the Kiwis managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The catch that turned into a comical trip on the boundary conceding six, the two successive sixes in the final over including the bat incident plus the superover needing 3 from 2 balls was all a mixture of bad luck and cracking under pressure. I doubt we'll ever see anything like it again...
