I’ve seen somewhere that Stevie Bruce has been confirmed as the new Newcastle manager, but can’t find the link now!!
One position must be RB. I don't know what the other would be. It'll interesting to see who's playing where today and how many subs are allowed or if the teams will change squads at half time.
It still mystifies me why we haven't signed a RB yet. I'd guess that we will play with different teams in the two halves and either Max is going to have to play both halves or someone is going to have to play out of position. My guess would be either McLean or Thompson as emergency RB. SW has been so thorough and methodical about finding the right players to fill other gaps, it just seems strange that RB is taking so long. It may be that a player has been lined up, possibly on a loan, and his team want to keep him for the pre-season. There's just that nagging doubt that Max could pick up a serious injury and we could go into the PL without a dedicated player at RB.
Noooooo you're forgetting, because it's Norwich divide by 5. We aren't allowed high values like that remember
I've finally had an hour free to listen to SW on TNC and it was worth every minute: Great way to look back at last season and get a good idea of how we're heading into the PL.
Apologies if it's been posted before, but Oliveira's move to Greece is getting closer if this is true: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwi...-rumours-nelson-oliveira-aek-athens-1-6158911 Fingers crossed.
That's good news. I'll add that to my guesswork about how much budget we have left, which I did on the pre-season thread: Well, what have we actually spent? Fährmann is said to have cost around £2.5m in loan fee and probably around another £2m in wages. Roberts probably has a modest loan fee, say £500k and another £1m at least in wages. Drmic will have had a signing on fee, say £500k and his wages are probably at least another £1.5m. Then there's the 7 young players who would each have a modest fee and wages in the region of £800k each, or £5.5m. Incoming was £450k for Franke. If those guesses are about right, that's roughly £13m gone from the £20m budget, leaving around £7m for any more players coming in. That would eliminate Jarrod Bowen or other fantasies, but it could be enough for a reasonably priced RB/CB and/or DM combination in one or possibly two players to complete our dealing. If we get £1m for Oliveira, then we could add the savings in his wages in the region of £1.5-2m. That would leave around £9.5-10m in the budget. Over to you Stuart.
Swansea have turned down a £15m bid from Sheffield United for Ollie McBurnie according to the BBC. I'm not sure what's more mad, that SUFC have the money to make that kind of bid, or that Swansea think it's below their valuation.
Teamtalk reckon Rhodes is close to a return on loan: https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-norwich-closing-in-on-striker-loan-deal Can't see any sense in a loan when he has 12 months left on his contract, and Bruce leaving surely shakes things up at Wednesday anyway. So take this with a giant pinch of salt. Edit: EDP have thoroughly poured cold water on this rumour. Nothing in it apparently.
Yes, that was a classic piece of what Chris Lackey dubbed 'churnalism'. Teamtalk pumped out the rumour and within an hour blog after blog copied and pasted it to create what EDP called 'mounting speculation' before dismissing it after checking with the club. Expect the speculation to go on mounting though.
I don't want Rhodes now , we have Pukki Srebeny Drmic and now Idah. He is 29 years old and still pretty expensive. Unless a bargain basement cut price deal can be done I don't think we need him.
I’d take Rhodes on another loan if we wanted another striker, but he would be third choice for the PL and then I’d want to see Srbeny and Idah playing the cups so he wouldn’t see any game time barring an injury crisis. Not worth it really, definitely wouldn’t pay the price Wednesday want
Norwich City have recently been linked with a move for Sheffield Wednesday forward, Jordan Rhodes according to TEAMtalk. But the Eastern Daily Press have revealed that those reports are believed to be wide of the mark, and a move to Carrow Road isn’t close to reaching any conclusion. Rhodes spent last season on loan with the Canaries, as they went on to win promotion back into the Premier League under the guidance of Daniel Farke. He made 36 league appearances for Norwich, scoring six goals in his time with the club, and we saw glimpses of his clinical form which Rhodes will be keen to build on heading into the new season. It remains to be seen as to whether Norwich were interested in signing Rhodes on loan or on a permanent deal, but the Canaries are likely to be cautious with their final loan deal, as they’re only permitted to take one more player on loan. Farke’s side have already signed Patrick Roberts on loan from Manchester City, which means that they’re unlikely to be rushing into an immediate decision over their last loan signing. Rhodes has been with Sheffield Wednesday since 2017, but has struggled to find regular game time at Hillsborough in recent years, which will certainly be frustrating for the Scotsman. The Verdict: He could be given a lifeline if Steve Bruce is to leave the club in favour of a move to Newcastle. Rhodes could have been heading for the exit door at Hillsborough in the near future, but if Bruce is to leave, then a new manager will want to assess his squad before the new Championship season gets underway. If the forward can recapture his best form, then he could be the man to fire Sheffield Wednesday into the Premier League. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/r...ld-wednesday-strikers-future-at-hillsborough/
