Hello, everyone. Must confess there is one running, of the morrow, that I have been waiting ages to see re-appear on the old racecourse. The 7YO BLACK ANTHEM (5.55 Stratford) looked a most curious claim by the good Doctor, Richard Newland, back in April as he had a strike rate of just 1/23 and a NH perch of a mere 86. At first glance you had to ask the question, ‘Why, Doc, why?!?’and for that reason it really appealed to me and caught the eye. The old boy evidently thought he saw something exploitable following Black Anthem’s 3rd place finish in an Exeter seller just under 3 and a half months ago. Now running under the banner of ‘The Value Racing Club’ I think Black Anthem is a fascinating runner tomorrow and can’t wait to see how he fares following his change of scenery. Personally, I can see the move to the Doctor being a proper tonic and I’m sure that old boy has prescribed a win at Stratford. What, what?!? You would certainly expect him to be planning to take full advantage of that basement rating of just 86 (this was as high as 114 back in ’17 incidentally). Meanwhile Dr Newland is certainly in splendid, and I do mean splendid, form with, at the time of writing, 10 of his last 23 runners winning. Good luck all.
Just to add a little to the interest and intrigue surrounding this beast and tomorrows card at Stratford. Trainer Brian Barr had two runners that day in the Exeter novices selling hurdle, they finished 2nd and 3rd, and both were claimed. The third was Black Mischief, claimed by Newland, and the second was Khadian, claimed by Olly Murphy. Both were claimed for £6000. Rather spookily both are runners on the Stratford card tomorrow and both are favourites for their respective heats. Khadian has had a couple of outings for Murphy but as Chuckles tells us Black Mischief is having his first run for Newland. It must have been a fair loss for Barr to lose two horses on the same day but thats what you get for running in sellers/claimers. Some trainers get targeted by others when running in these events and the bottom line is that they are confident that they can improve on what the current trainer had done. You only have to compare Brian Barr's record to that of Newland and Murphy to see that they have a point. It would be an interesting and unusual double.
For years the Japanese have been trying to win the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe... Today, on Bastille Day in the French capital, in the Grand Prix de Paris it definitely looks like victory for Japan. Only the connections are going to get rich at 6:45 with the favourite trading at 1/2.
For Sunday, the BBC have decided that Radio 2 will only be playing one song: Judging by Edgbaston, they can surely do better at Lord’s than they did at The Greek Theatre...

hello everyone! stratford,2 25: i think, the key players are those from that market rasen race 3 weeks ago, where what will be was second, and TWO BLONDES third.the latter had a good tow into the race, only to find not too much, but will have learned from that, and can only improve today.also wasnt too bad on the level.
perth,2 40: PATS OSCAR has to concede lumps of weight here, but she may well be able to shrug that off, given that she had the race in the bag last time out, only to fall, and if she takes to fences first time up,should be competitive today, for her top team.
sligo,3 25: MON STORM won well here 2 starts back, and wasnt disgraced in a better race last time out,so he should be in the mix here..
