Plus most Catholics in England take part in Bonfire Night celebrations, as it’s ceased to have any religious significance.
And as the person in charge of that border said as she resigned over it, Border issues are inevitable whatever outcome of brexit. "There is no technology solution which would mean that you could do customs controls and processes and not have a hard border" Edit: excluding customs unions etc. I meant the ones currently being given serious consideration.
So we have foreign nationals who have been in charge of the England football team, running state enterprises in the past, been in position of power at the BoE, who are in managerial roles in PL clubs, who coach the cricket and rugby teams, are in junior and senior positions in the NHS, yet we do not have one foreign national in the cabinet. I put it to people here, if we could which foreign national would you choose to become our PM as our present lot of politicians on both sides of the House look totally inept. The likes of the Israeli PM are a no go. For me it would be the NZ PM, We should go all out to secure her services.
The Orange Walks in Northern Ireland are done to get a response, and the Catholics gave them the response that they were after. These Walks are dying out now as most Catholics have the opinion now that they are a sorry bunch of old twats in their silly hats arching around for half the year, most Prodestants would probably feel the same. I watched a march in 75 in Derry and the air was obviously different, but I do think if the Catholics had not given any response the marches would have died out years ago. Although its still going strong in Glasgow, strange huh
Did nobody see the program on Labour and anti-semitisim last night? I didn’t, but some mates were discussing it and I half expected to read some views on it here.
Yes, I was not impressed (by the BBC). I hold Corbin in little regard and there are clear issues with some members of his party and how they've been allowed to express anti semetic bollocks. The programme was obviously driven by a clear agenda which (imo) undermined some of the valid and seriously concerning evidence given by ex Labour staff. I don't expect balance from the BBC these days, though god knows they're still better than most news agencies.
It has caused a heated discussion amongst my mates Who include a couple of staunch tories and a couple of staunch labourites (one of whom is a big JC fan). I’ve not seen it so not been able to decipher the debate!! Thought I may have found more comment here * * maybe it’s not606 bias sweeping it under the carpet
Haven’t seen it,so can’t comment. I will try and find time to watch and I’ll get back to you. A question to those that did see it though: did it attempt to differentiate between antisemitism and anti-Zionism, which are two completely different things?
I watched it. It came across to me as a hatchet job and very one sided. There were, for instance, no interviews with Jewish activists who are also Corbyn supporters, for the sake of balance. That said, testimony of Maria Eagle MP, who received anti Semitic abuse in her constituency was extremely worrying. Worth pointing out however, that it was recognised and dealt with, and she stated that the atmosphere in local party meetings had now changed for the better. The allegations - some of them anyway - probably aren’t completely without foundation. Anti Semitism does exist, probably in the Labour Party as well as elsewhere. Not to anything like the extent that Islamophobia exists in the Tory Party (see recent YouGov poll - it’s shocking ) but all complaints of racism should be taken seriously and dealt with robustly. So, in Summary: Has Labour dealt with this issue as effectively as it should? Probably not Is the Labour Party institutionally Anti Semitic? Absolutely not Is Jeremy Corbyn Anti Semitic - no, despite an ongoing orchestrated smear campaign conducted relentlessly by the British media for years now, they couldn’t find one single instance of him making anti Semitic remarks. Was the BBC program balanced and fair? - no, in my opinion it never set out to be.
Ken Livingston, on the other hand, I would not attempt to defend. I don’t know what his problem is, but I wouldn’t invite him to a Barmitzvah
But, is the BBC EVER fair and balanced any more? I am SO disappointed to see the way they seem to be pandering to Brexit, right wing rhetoric and hardly ever seem to have a neutral view. All the years I worked abroad, I relied on the Beeb to find out the REAL news ..... no longer
I must admit I tend to watch Channel 4 News instead of the BBC now. The BBC is running scared I think, hence the lurch to the right - being one of the last British institutions in public ownership, they know they are in the Tory’s sights.
Maybe he’s got a job with Aunty and they’re keeping him too busy to post on here. @ImpSaint , what do you reckon. Is JC an anti-Semite (that’s Jeremy Corbyn btw. Don’t think Jesus Christ was anti Semitic. Definitely a lefty though )
I agree that they say there is no technology, that is because it is a different concept than any other border. I for the life of me cannot see why two agreeing nations can't work something out. Alternative technology has been suggested but was totally dismissed by the EU. If they really wanted a reasonable solution perhaps it could have been worked on? Not just dismissed out of hand.......That is how I see the border issue..........
You're doing it again Dave. They're not pandering. They are being balanced. Which means they have to accommodate the views that you don't agree with too [and me]. There has been plenty of stuff showing the non-Brexit side. I've read quite a few comments that the BBC are so anti-Brexit. I thought most people thought that they were. It just shows you what people notice and what people don't.
