its not being naïve, granted there will always be a few that will always accept that it is wrong, but that opens the argument [ grey area ] that is it a taboo "never to be spoken about!! or there isn't a taboo because they voice an opinion that it is wrong. the acceptance level is probably very high … maybe above 90%? I have a number of hobbies [ clubs ]... therefore friends in many aspects and to be honest in the past few years I don't think any of them have not accepted the person for who they are ...male or female... a quick think back to my first encounter with a gay person who was open about it back then was in 1975 or later ! since then amongst friends or acquaintances I can count at least 8 males and 6 females …. Oh and one very good friend that that is straight as a die ...pulls some real "hot chicks" as they say but wears a skirt! … not a kilt...! OH PS and one of my female friends is now a bloke!
Some people can’t accept it you’re right, often for religious reasons, I don’t think most people these days mind though, look at the reaction on here as an example, the overwhelming majority seem fine with it . LGBT people still complain of prejudice so it must exist, but maybe more with society in general , rather than individuals.
Yeah exactly, that's correct. But JGF said it wasn't a 'taboo' when it quite clearly still is to at least some level. Either way, things are at least going in the right direction .
First of all let me just say right at the start I'm not anti-gay or anti anything whatsoever....(apart from the EU!) but I do think it's all got a bit commercialised now. It's typical of society nowadays...one minute it's all hush hush, then the next, it's all in our faces. I think the player in question, just needs to get on with it, so we can all move on. We have Black people, gay people, ginger people etc....even Welsh!...We all are what we are......I really don't think many people gives a **** and only rises to it when the media and a like makes such a big thing about it. Like on here now, it's all a bit, tip toe, worried about saying the wrong thing in case it offends someone...... Life is life, whatever you are and what ever you look like...
you don't have to keep trolling the bottom of the barrel for a comment so you have the last word … you constantantly keep coming up with double negatives to "fit [ try ] the last word"... it is a taboo when it is a subject no one will address it … once breached, ROD quoted a couple examples … and now breast cancer is not a taboo. Taboo is an old English word when almost most things were "unspeakable".... one of the most common "taboo" subjects was periods and reproduction! I once acquired a book from a 2nd hand book shop basically "how to teach your kids the facts of life" … babies are produced when daddy rabbit gets to close to mummy rabbit! A whole chapter on reproduction … no mention of Penis ...Vagina [ INDEED NOT EVEN A FEW SLANG WORDS ] book was about 200 years old and about 40 pages …. sold it for a juicy profit! good job no one on here comes with me on my jaunts …. exploring … Tuesday , Wednesday Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons ….. banter? ...if you cant stand the heat stay out of the kitchen comes to mind …..
My take man and woman were put on this earth -Man and Woman is fine, anything else is wrong call me old fashioned if you like, but the world we live in is a crazy place today.
As a straight, white heterosexual male it’s easy I suppose for me to say ‘yeah you’re gay - so what? I don’t care about your sexual preferences as long as you deliver on the pitch. ‘ But that’s because I’m not a member of that minority - and football fans can be as cruel as school kids sometimes. Remember Rhoeder at Wesr Ham being taunted as ‘tumour boy’ for having cancer? Things are definitely better than they used to be, but I do understand why he may be cautious about coming out as someone who does his job in public.
Football fans from the opposing sides will always find something to be cruel about, long hair, no hair, ginger etc......just got to get on with it IMO.. The more that's made of it the worse it will be...
Whoever this player is, he's a brave person doing this and i'm curious to know in the coming weeks to find out who he is, obviously with social media nowadays he's going to get abuse and threats etc but those people are complete morons and I hope no City fans in our ground will lower themselves to homophobic abuse although I have heard it a few times down the years unfortunately. I have a 29 year old brother who is gay and came out only 6 ago, I can't imagine what this guy is going through and hopefully gets all the support he deserves.
So its a proud, confident gay footballer who two days ago hadn't even told his family that he was gay. sound like someone who is confident??? he received the full support of the two men he opened up to, but then later asked about his involvement in pre-season training. why would he feel the need to ask that if he's already received the full support of his chairman and manager?? hoax?
