Lo Celso could be a special case.

I am wondering whether the Betis chairman might be infected with Peace-itis,
whereby he thinks he is the chosen one who will get one over on Levy.
If so, he would do well to look at Aulas at Lyon, who for all the public bravado
in the end agreed to a reasonable fee + T+Cs that will come good if NDombele
    is the real deal.

  2. England full-back Danny Rose, 29, heads a list of eight players that Tottenham are looking to offload this summer.
    (Mail on Sunday)

Makes sense, as he's one of our best players.

Betis took him on loan to play in the EL last season. The money that earned them, allowed them to pay the buy-out. However, they're not in the EL next season and Lo Celso is said strongly to want to come to us. They're rumoured to be looking at players well above their previous levels of spending and they've had a serious churn of playing staff recently, to take advantage of a new DoF.

We're all-in for this player. He's Jack Grealish on steroid and ramped up to 11.We've put Pini Zahavi on the case and are seemingly prepared to break our transfer record again. He's next the list of players that MP wants, after Ndombele and this summer, that counts for a lot. We're not asking the price and walking away, shaking our head, muttering about lack of funds. This summer, we get stuff done or we're in trouble.

They could turn down our best offer but everything points to a deal being done. They've gone very quiet in the last few days, after having been quite vocal about the buy-out value before. If they're going to turn us down and truly intend to keep him, I'd expect a bit more fight to be shown.

Nothing's ever certain but I reckon this is our next buy and possibly more certain than Ceballos.

There will be a reason...and I'm doubting that we get knocked down in the rush.

The DOF has probably realised that his injury in 2017 effectively
ended any chance he had of a Walker-esque move. I would be
happy to have him see out his days at Spurs as best he can.

Ah, so there is a financial dimension to this (as I suggested the other day) .
As you said, if Betis are covered (his wages, buying new players etc) even with no EL
then you expect them to tell Spurs where to go. Unless of course an absolutely silly
money offer you cannot refuse comes in (that is Levy all over, right :) ) .

Or (as I said when punting the same story off a cliff earlier)

Makes sense, reducing our number of Club Grown players

And club grown. It would take us below the minimum, so we'd essentially lose a place for the CL, IIRC.

As I mentioned at the time, our current CG players are as follows
    Harry Kane
    Harry Winks
    Danny Rose
    Kyle Walker-Peters
    Cameron Carter-Vickers
    Josh Onomah
    Luke Amos

We need four to fulfill our squad requirements in the CL, and with Amos out on loan that means we have to keep two of Rose, KWP, CCV and Onomah - and I very much doubt Onomah'll be one of them

If Whiteman is kept this season, despite being U21, he too can be classed as CG.

So IF Rose gets sold, Whiteman, KWP, Winks and Kane would complete our CG quota if we chose to register him.

There'd be no point in registering Whiteman. You don't have to fill the quota.
Each club gets 17 spots, plus four homegrown and four club grown, plus the U21s.

I don't think Whiteman qualifies as CG yet as he still qualifies as an U21 player, as the cutoff date is players born on January 1st 1998 - and he was born on October 2nd that year

On the other hand, Anthony Georgiou does qualify as CG as he was born on 24th February 1997 - but he's in the same boat as Onomah and CCV, where this summer we'll have to make a decision on whether to play him or sell him

Doesn't there need to be three registered goalkeepers though or am I completely wrong on that?

I just thought the CG ruling was a player trained at the club between 15-21 which Whiteman would qualify for. Probably wrong though, I don't know too much about the rulings but just presumed he'd count based on the 15-21 thing.

As I suggested in the Loan Watch thread, it's worth loaning at least one of Whiteman or Austin out this season to get first team experience, considering it would be suicide to have them as our third-choice keeper in spite of a complete lack of first team football on their resume, and as we have approximately 73 academy goalkeepers it wouldn't affect our U23s to do so
