As per usual I had to have a look at the bumper which is at Newton Abbot tomorrow. I always look at yard form in bumpers at the tracks and it is usually very informative but I was shocked by the fact that none of the trainers with runners in the heat tomorrow has had a bumper winner at the track in the last five seasons! They are in fact 0/19. We can forgive Skelton as he has not had a bumper runner there but I am surprised that none of Pipe, FOB or Robert Stephens have.E Difficult to recommend anything as they look a pretty ordinary bunch. Two of the newcomers have ok pedigrees, SMARTMANDARCY (66/1) and SHANTOU SUNSET (33/1). Either could run a place but are too flimsy to recommend from yards that are yet to have a bumper winner.

My eye is drawn to a McCain runner down in Devon today - Ofcourseiwill 2.40 Newton Abbot. McCain doesn't send many down here but when he does he has a decent strike rate. Also it's northern based jockey, Brian Hughes' only ride of the day. He surely won't be making that trip for £150 riding fee and a box of Devon clotted cream toffees (even though they are rather splendid but attritional on the fillings). It's not a bad race as it goes but at 8/1 I'll have a go ew. Good luck all.
Sizing Granite against the very underpriced The Jam Man. SG is the best horse in the race and is so well handicapped against his fences form. 13/2 is far too big.
RIP John McCririck A colourful character from yesteryear whose racing insights i personally found both entertaining and knowledgeable
Agree with this - I always watched the Morning Line when he was on. I never bother with the ITV version these days. sad to see him become so bitter in his latter days, but him Alastair Down and Francome were racing on the TV at its best
1.50 Sandown Beyond Equal 3/1 Won with plenty in hand last time. This is the sharpest test he has faced but he had the race won a fair way out last time and scampered away in the end. He seems a fair price to follow up at 3/1 today.
Disappointed with that. Beyond Equal was in a good position to strike and if he had finished the way he did last time I feel he would have won but he simply folded up late in the race and those from off the pace dominated. The rank outsider won it and the first three in the betting filled the last three places in the race. Blimey.
Balls. I backed Liberty Beach in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot and she placed 4th at good odds. Never noticed she was out again so quick (2.25 Sandown), this time in Listed Class, and she dotted up at 9/4. Double balls. New balls please.
sandown,3 25: ELARQAM is a big player here.after an interrupted career,he got back on track this season, winning a good race at goodwood in good style, and then running a blinder at ascot a few weeks ago.so,hes the clear class act in this, and should go very well..
Seems the obvious one, however I'm a little surprised to see Oasis Charm at such a big price. I'm fully expecting a much better run today on more suitable ground and looking to take on the favourite. Gone each way at 10/1
