I agree. We will always mention Saints, Shane Long and Celine Dion in the same sentence because of him.
Agree with this... As we did when we signed him. 1 goal every 300 mins played in EPL. That’s 11.4 goals per season if he could play every minute of every game, which he can’t and shouldn’t.
He's a solid citizen and an okay player, but Saints legend is a bit strong. And Benali's status is derived largely from his having been with the club for a solid two decades, plus all of his work thereafter.
I think that Shane's rep has taken a bit of a dip after Pellegrino insisted on playing him as a lone Striker. He will always be more valuable to the team alongside other Forwards where his tireless running and pace can create things for others and himself. His value to Saints should never be measured by his stats alone and I still think that he adds variety to the squad. If Ralph see a future for him here then that's ok by me.
Glad Arnautovic is going to China ....always scored against us. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48876616
My mistake. I lobbied for Sims to get a chance for quite a while, but it's pretty notable that he featured rather sporadically for Reading, and didn't see much time under Ralph, either. With his contract also expiring after this season, it doesn't appear that he's as well-regarded by decision-makers as he is by fans.
Lol. He only played 3 halves all season as he was on loan at Reading till late January. One MOTM award and an assist in his next game. I get you don’t rate him but the evidence suggests a promising talent that Ralph has openly acknowledged as one of the surprises of the season.
That's wingers for you. It's the most frustrating position on the pitch, because they can be so effective one game, and crap the next, depending on how the opposition sets up against them. I bet every team in the league has an inconsistent winger that the fans can't quite decide on.
Do you really think Sims is going to be a good PL player? I think if Ralph though he was good, he’d have played him more. He didn’t. I think he struggles to impact a game that he starts and his best asset, his pace, can cause problems off the bench. I just haven’t seen him strt and dominate a game. I also think he was hooked in the next game after Spurs.
I always thought that Hesketh was the better prospect personally but injury stalled his progress a bit. Time is running out for both of them to make an impact here now with the new arrivals.
But we can't buy a new player for every position. I'd say spend the money on a CB or two for now. Plus, keeping Sims is not burning a hole in our pocket like, say, Forster is.
I have no problem with that either. With what we have now, he won’t get much game time and he may make an impact from the bench.
