He did well for us but he's hardly the future. I know we need a mix of youth and experience to survive or, dare I say, prosper but this is a bit too pragmatic for me. I'd prefer someone with a bit more gas in the tank who might develop with us rather than decline. There seems to be an echo on this website...
I predict Eze will blossom now Freeman has gone (5 million I read). Will be interesting to see how Freeman does in the Premier League. He'll certainly have to release the ball sooner.
Reckon you're right about Eze, I might be imagining it but it felt like the more prominent Freeman was the more Eze went into his shell.
Know what you mean, I doubt he'd be a starter but he's a decent bloke to have around the squad I reckon.
Exactly my take on it too. I didn't go every week, so others may correct me, but whenever I watched us I got the impression that Freeman and Eze weren't exactly boosom buddies. Also, good player as he undoubtedly is, Freeman seemed a bit of a moaner, which wouldn't have helped Eze's confidence either. Hopefully going away with England U20s will have helped Eze blossom.
Will be interesting to see what Warburton can get out of Eze. There’s a clutch of young players vying for attention, which will need a lot of strong management and cajoling to get the best out of them.
Apparently in talks with Geoff Cameron, would take him as more experience in MF will help & done well when fit
Eze is blessed with wonderful talent, but went missing too often last year. I don't see why Freeman, a player that never failed to give 100%, should be held responsible for that. I would love to see Eze flourish next season, but he will have competition again for the playmaker role - this time from Chair, who may well prove to be equally as talented - and he will have to show that he has the determination to be number one. It's good to have two such players vying to fill the Freeman gap though.
My main concern is that we are bringing in too many players too soon and they are all youngsters. It's a bit like when we got promoted and we awaited all of them to gel ( under Mark Hughes ) and they we're senior pros. It didn't happen. We need to hit the ground running or it's going to be another tough season. We can't keep changing the squad like this. The club have kept banging on about stability for years, but we still find ourselves no where near that.
It’s, yet again, a Catch 22. The 2018-19 squad was barely good enough to stay in the Championship. Minus Freeman it wouldn’t have a hope. The building that has gone on to date hasn’t worked very well. So we are trapped in a permanent rebuild. The quality of the coach will be the key factor in getting us to the stage where we can achieve stability and do a Ferguson era Man Utd, freshen up the squad with one or two additions each year, just to keep the competition for places up and maintain our awesome presence in the knockout stages of the Champions League. ****ing hell those mushrooms I had for breakfast have just kicked in. Groovy.
I am concerned a bit about the lack of strikers and the input of the midfielders. Our accounts sheet so far GK Out: Ingrams In Kelly (Also Lumley and surprisingly Dieng). That looks perfect Backs: Out Bidwell, Lynch, Baptiste In Wallace, Barbet, Masterson & Ball (two for the future) (Also Leistner, Hall, Furlong, Hamamalien, Kakay)...that is good) Midfielders: Out Cousins, Cameron (? is he back) Luongo (?is he going ) In Amos, Smith (Also: Scowen, Manning, Goss) Attack minded midfielders: Out Wszolech, Freeman, In: 0 (Also Eze, Chair, Smythe, Wheeler, BOS, Shodipo) Forwards: Out Matt Smith, Hemed and Wells In 0 (also Oteh, Walker) So we are looking (alledgedly) Cameron ...I liked him a lot last season...but why when we have the two loanees (Smith and Amos), Scowen and Manning competing for that place Rangel........I liked him too but why...we have starting backs (and back up backs too and Manning and I assumedDominic Ball was bought to be the utility back on the bench) Scott Hogan ...... Yes I understand there is not an experienced forward in the club at all, the nearest we have is SLF. So I sort of understand this. But he is costy and has really only had one decent spell, but that was under Warburton. Barry McKay..who is said to be a striker and a winger, but whose strike record makes Conor Washington look like a superstar We are building from the back...which after last years dire performances is so understanadable...but we are going to be so so dependant on BOS, Chair and Eze next year.. I am concerned but hope that defense will easily keep us in the division, which obviously makes it easier to build from ...than depending on team spirit and Freeman to always drag us back from the precipice
I still think that everyone expected a lot from Eze - last season was his first season in the championship so his form was going to dip at some point. I think that if we can get Cameron back he will prove to be a very useful acquisition as well as Rangel - lets not forget it's also what they bring to the changing room and training ground that helps.
Cameron and Rangel will be effective team members for us this season. They will be fighting for team places; looking after the younger ones and being mentor/coaches for the defensive team - which will support the work of the management team. From that perspective they should be good value. Agreed, Beth, we look lightweight for creative flair in the middle and I’m sure that the couple of experienced strikers needed are high on the agenda now.
Rangel and Cameron are undoubtedly good guys but don’t think I want either of them unless wages are minuscule. Rangel was a bit of a liability at times and is 36 or whatever. Cameron a big player for us when fit but we have to be bringing through younger players in that position. Manning deserves a run IMO.
I really didnt see Cameron as a major bonus to be honest. Would prefer to utilise what we already have.
You don't sign strikers early in the window. The value are way to overpriced. We as fans need to be patient regarding strikers for the time being. I believe the new rules state that all transfers needs to be done before the first game of the season, not sure if that includes loans? I don't expect to see much movement re forwards before late July, and loans after the Premier League kicks off. Apart from the striker shortage, for me, this has been the best window I can remember regarding recruitment and sales. Looking forward to an exciting new season with a very interesting squad of players. Already booked for the Hull and Cardiff around new year, not sure I'm able to wait for so long though, September sounds tempting...
Yeah, Freeman's decision making can be AWFUL at times, even though he has the ability. Someone will need to coach that out of him, if possible at his age. Eze... he needs some really good coaching to mature into the player he has the potential to be. But I actually like BOS more than him and see more potential there, not just because he has a better attitude. We shall see!
