The 3.30 Haydock is a race with a few angles into it as a betting medium.

Fitzrovia has won the last twice, somewhat surprisingly drifting right out to 9/4 last time after opening pretty short early doors. He won easily again that second time but is up 9 lbs and perhaps more worryingly is on faster ground after two wins on the soft.

Top weight Tukhoom won in first time blinkers on his latest start and is fancied in a few places. He's 6YO now though and will the blinkers click a second time?

Mickey is well down the handicap tree now but he has earned his drop in the weights because he has only one win in his life and that was a maiden race three years ago. Ran OK last time but no appeal for me at odds of 11/2 in a scenario where his last win dates further back than the Brexit Vote.

Punjab Mail is well enough tipped up but at 6/1 is not tempting me even after a decent 3rd last time out. Still a maiden and I am not keen on maidens in Handicap races when the odds are tight,

Ramesses has won this season and is a similar profile to the previous horse. He is also well tipped up but after two decent races he was below par last time out and needs to bounce back into the groove here.

I though Lady Of Aran was worth a poke here. She was absent from the track for 18 months and unsurprisingly needed her return race badly. She was well below form that day but ran a good bit better next time despite being quite far down the field. Her second run was rated 18 lbs better than her first and not that far from her old form prior to the problem that kept her off the track. Back to 7F may help and if she is in better shape now she may have a squeak at a price. Lightly raced and perhaps open to some progression having not raced aged 3, her stable are on 35% as a strike rate at the moment. 14/1 looked fair as a bit of value compared to some with their own question marks at a good bit shorter prices.

3.30 Haydock Lady Of Aran 14/1

Jumping ahead to Saturday as I am going away and need to put bets on today, is 10f to short for Enable?

Fat Frank the Chelsea boss. I think it’s a good appointment for both parties. With their transfer suspension he has to bring the kids through. I just hope the Chelsea fans give him the time he needs to get his squad and style of play sorted. I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on.

canny appointment as the fans will be more patient with him than with any other manager. It’ll be interesting to see how they get on this season.

It's all right the fans being patient, what about the Rusky who pays the bills? His track record in that regard is mediocre at best.

I hope Lampard is a disaster and the wheels start to well and truly come off Chelsea, its all they deserve after their treatment of Sarri last season.

I wouldn't be put off by the distance. The follow-up question must be is 10/11 to short for Enable??? Personally, I think it's about right.

Re ‘Fat’ Frank all that I hope is that they draw Fleetwood in the Cup. What, what?!?

I think it was Roy Keene (it may have been someone else though!) who said that a new manager always gets 10 minutes ‘grace’ (lovely girl incidentally) to prove themselves when arriving at a new club. Someone who has won The World Cup, the Euros, the Champions League, The Premier League, The FA Cup and the Boat Race gets 15 minutes. What he has done in the past will stand for very little, troops, if Chelsea get battered in their opening couple of games.

    afternoon,gents!

    perth,2 10:

with the two ante post favourites, cats for cash and turbo, rather unconvincing on their present form, this could leave the door open for the mare MEGA DOUBLE,who can boast some useful novice hurdle form from last season.has not yet reached the same level of form this season, but still early days, and can go well, especially with her mares allowance another factor..

    perth,2 40:

the key form here is the meeting of emirat de catana,ANGELS ENVY and monsieur bagot.all three are closely matched on that form, but a narrow vote goes to ANGELS ENVY,who seemed to relish the step up in trip last time out,and is expected to turn the form around on these better terms.

although i backed welcome ben last time out,i cant see the form being turned around with WITNESS IN COURT,as the latter was well on top in the end,and though the former is slightly better off at the weights today,i think, the mccain horse will win again today..
