Good point. However, if, as has been said, the council leader is against QPR (very unprofessional in my view), he is going to dismiss many thousands of these responses as 'just QPR fans' anyway. I wonder whether we are heading for a move out of W12. Very sad if does happen and would need incredibly careful managing to avoid losing / marginalising fans. I suppose we may pick up new ones if we do move.
I wonder how many of those that attend home games regularly actually live in W12? I seem to recall that the club did a survey a while back and concluded that most lived in what they described as the 'A40 corridor' - Northolt, Greenford, Ruislip. As someone raised in NW10 and now living in Eastcote, staying in W12 means bugger all to me.
Never lived in W12 and now in W5 but near the A40 so down that corridor. It does mean something to me, being in W12, but I'm reflecting on whether that is just unhelpful emotional nostalgia or something else. I think part of the problem is 'Loftus Road' which is what our stadium was known as prior to it becoming the KPF. Always referred to by pundits as 'Loftus Road' and, of course, that is very firmly in W12. Glad it's not my call to make!
Because I was born in W12 it does mean a lot me wanting the club to stay local, but it more important that we grow as a club and if that means leaving W12 so be it
I lived on the White City estate and went to Christopher Wren. Although I now live in South Ruislip I would rather stay in W12, but if we have to move then so be it.
I have very missed feelings on the matter. Although I now live in Sussex I’m a Shepherds Bush lad through and through, and the club being in W12 and staying an integral part of the area that I grew up in really does mean something to me. I also like the fact that strictly speaking it means that we are the only club with a west London postcode. But taking emotion out of it though, if I'm honest with myself the area I grew up in really no longer exists, and what with the aging demographic of the average Rs fan and the small and frankly outdated stadium we've got I’ve long been very concerned about the gradual dwindling of our support. That has only been compounded by the millions rolling in to our rivals up the road curtesy of Al Fayed and Abramovich. The areas further west like Acton, Ealing and Northolt now feel way more like QPR to me that W12 itself does. The hard truth is that we either find ways to grow as a club, or we slowly but surely decline. If that is via a shiny new stadium in Wormwood Scrubbs or Old Oak, great. But if it has to be further out then I’m all for it...
Agree. Sadly, supporting a football club is about sentimentality, not rationality or sense (otherwise QPR would have no fans). Loftus Road is a disaster and needs to go. But I love Shepherds Bush. It will be an interesting trade off if we move to a MetroLand suburb - a civilised stadium as opposed to an insult v what’s going on locally. So it’s all down the the pubs. And a decent chippie.
Our central London location is vital in attracting the large numbers of foreign visitors we see at most home games. For someone with casual interest, popping down to Shepherds Bush from the west end for a 2nd tier English game is an easy option but the same can't be said of some poorly connected car park in Northolt (no offence to Northolt but you know what I mean). If you want our 13k home gates to rapidly reduce to 10k or less this is a good way of going about it.
I do agree to some extent, but with the facilities at Loftus Road, not many casual visitors ever come back. A new stadium could get us some new fans who are used to watching football in comfort. Hopefully the West London Stadium will work on both fronts.
should we lease or own are the owners skint why are they raising bonds to pay for the training ground or is that how its done by the wealthy never use your own money
For purely personal reasons, anywhere close to terminal two out at Heathrow would be perfect for me as it would make my commute slightly easier. I am beginning to hate that Piccadilly Line stuffed in like a sardine tube ride into Hammersmith and back again. My second choice would be anywhere near Gatwick Airport. The train ride via Clapham Junction is much more comfortable that the tube to LHR. Joking aside, I agree with the general consensus in that we should try to stay somewhere close to W12. The problem with the L.C. Stadium is that it is in a bit of a wasteland near the Scrubs. There are few pubs/eateries in that area at the moment for pre-match pints and grub. The closest area would probably be Westfield and eating/drinking in a shopping centre is not everybody's cup of tea. We need somewhere with good public transport connections, somewhere with good parking facilities and access to a motorway so people can get in and out of the area to travel home and not be stuck in traffic for hours on end.
I think we should relocate to Dublin finny. Get the Irish R's on board and have a great jolly every couple of weeks. Plenty of new fans to be had over there too. The away fans would love it as well. The TV schedues might throw a spanner in the works though but not for August as we're not featured in one single game on Sky.
