So it's 3rd or 4th then....silly competition anyway...let's move on to the Euros (Americans excluded from that :)). I hate the day after games like this....virtually have to avoid the TV....thank goodness for wall to wall Wimbledon. And there's always the cricket v New Zealand :emoticon-0107-sweat:emoticon-0107-sweat:emoticon-0107-sweat

I don't see what advantage you have by having a toe 1/2mm 'offside', VAR obviously got it right because them the offside rules. But I don't agree with them.

Now we have VAR, offside needs to go back to daylight between attacker and defender. Stupid when a body part sticks out and prevents a goal. >penis joke goes here<

    This! So much this!

Why oh why is football run by people who don’t “get” football??

Goals are good for the game, so if there is going to be a rule that has borders, make it in favour of the attacking team.

Absolutely. Have been saying this since Offside VAR started. It’s the body that counts in offside not a toe or a heel. In the spirit of the game that was a great goal.

In a race the photo finish goes to the runner when their chest hits the line. Not their toe or finger. This should be similar

Edit: and another thing. Pre VAR decisions went on bodies being on or offside as that’s what the assistant sees. So this has effectively changed the rule

Offside has for some time only applied to parts of your body you can score from so feet, head and body....hands and arms don't count. What has changed are the close calls which are now down to the ridiculous. Of course in the interests of fairness to VAR :emoticon-0119-puke: it can also prove a goal was onside as sometimes the game has moved on a step by the time it registers with the linesman and a perfectly good goal is ruled out.

It hasn't changed the rule. It's just made offside decisions much more accurate. There's no grey area with offside. Either you're on or you're off. White was offside therefore disallowed. With VAR you no longer have any doubt so you can't give any to the attacker any more.

Exactly as Fats was saying, rules made by people who don’t “get” football.

No. Offside is offside. It looked offside when I first saw the replay. VAR was designed to improve the accuracy of the really tight calls. The rules clearly state that you are offside if a body part you can legally score with is beyond the 2nd last defender. You can't add: "unless its really tight". That would be absurd.

At the moment offside is black or white because you are dealing with human beings and that is easier, but quite possible that an element of %* could be introduced in the future, fed into the system which would signal on/offside when asked.

*Someone explain % to Beddy, please. :)

Have to extend my above comment to say that perhaps things should be tighter in the box because a small difference makes a bigger difference than if the shot was far out.

Var is not the problem here it's the rules that that need changing. Offside should only be offside if there is clear daylight between the attacker and the defender would make life so much simpler and games more exciting.

The American girl, Morgan, who did the tea-drinking celebration. Surely that's like an England player scoring against Germany and doing a Nazi-salute, goose-stepping celebration.

Classy Yanks as always. Bang on about their independence non-stop, but never mention their own colonisation of other countries.

I don't think you can compare tea sipping to Nazis.

It was not the classiest of moves, but soccer players have never been all that classy. I think it's being blown out of proportion to some extent.

I think sometimes we put the women on a pedestal which is actually kind of sexist. We act like the women play the game the way it's supposed to be played and their games are more "pure," etc. But they dive, they commit cheap fouls, they waste time, they surround the ref and moan, and yeah they troll their opponents and talk trash. And then sometimes the backlash is worse than it should be because people have this false vision of them.

I would expect England to be mad, as they have every right to be. And they'll remember that. And then England will score against the US at some point and we get some kind of "I'm a fat American scarfing down a Big Mac" celebration, and that will be poor sportsmanship as well, but the US would deserve that and I will not complain..

So yeah, I would never do what Morgan did. I find it a little mean-spirited. In my world, you'd get yellow carded for that. But in my world, no World Cup or professional game would end with more than 15 players on the pitch because I'd yellow card them for all the little stupid **** they do like screaming at the ref, any amount of handbags, etc.

But that's in my world. In the real world, what Morgan did was nothing special and I don't see the fuss.

I didn't see Morgans tea sipping antics, in fact the only time I noticed her she was on her back....... I started to wonder if football was a secondary career! <laugh> But in all seriousness, I'll be cheering on the other finalists, as will 90% of the viewing fanbase from all over the world. Rapino doesn't want to go to the whitehouse, & I don't want her to be invited!

My main issue with it, I guess stems from my annoyance in general with Americans' self-righteous attitude with regards colonisation. Acting the heroic victims all the time, whilst conveniently forgetting their own colonisation of Philippines and the rest.

I like you guys individually but they must brainwash the f*ck out of you in school.

Fair play to you though, cos you seem above it.

I've been following that story too from a distance because it involves Trumps ridiculous antics. The last time I looked he'd invited the US team whether they win or not, so it's upto Rapino to refuse. But her USA teammates support her stance too, so they won't be going either. Good for them. <laugh>

Trump did say something like 'she's not my type' referring to her sexual orientation, but it may have been some other foot in mouth moment. He has so many.

Be interesting to see them all decline the invite. Sends a big message that.
Water off a Trumps back I'd guess! <laugh>

Oh yeah, he won't give a ****. Wouldn't surprise me if he refers to them as 'dykes' and expects everyone to move on. I find his attitude and behaviour appalling most of the time, and then he comes out and says something that sets new levels of low. I see what he is doing. He's trying to normalise this behaviour, so that the lying, cheating, insulting and criminal behaviour of his presidency becomes acceptable.
