I know it was a formality, but the news that Danny Ings is officially our player gave me a buzz yesterday. I really don't get any of the anti stuff. The thought of him playing behind some of these quick fire players we've just signed and establishing the understanding he has been building with Nathan Redmond is an exciting prospect. And as I said to my Liverpool supporting son, he might now get a chance to see Danny play at Anfield!
A fit Danny Ings after a full preseason will be some asset for Saints. He seems confident that he is fully fit. Are there many fans that are anti-Danny....I haven't noticed....perhaps I know a better class of fans
Would love him to have a good season. How do people see him being used to best effect considering where we have strengthened?
Are you sure Fran was referring to you two when talking about a better class of fan? She could have been referring to the hybrid fan that loves both Pompey and Saints.
I'm not anti-Danny as such. More so I think he was an expensive acquisition considering his injury record and I'm not convinced he's ever going to stay fit for long enough to get some form going. I think if Ralph had the £20m before we bought Ings, he would have gone for someone else as I'm not even convinced he's a Ralph type player. All that said, I absolutely hope he remains fit from here on out and becomes our next talismanic striker.
How can you say that you're not sure if he's a Ralph kind of player? Have you seen the work rate he puts in? Always trying to press from the front.
Danny has been talking on Talk Sport this morning, was hoping someone could come up with a transcript of what was said?
Think they were referring to his speed. Ralph does constantly bang on about wanting pacey forward and Ings isnt particularly quick. I agree that he has other desirable attributes however.
Or you've blocked a few people! To be fair, it isn't so much anti as concerned that he may be a) a sick note and b) not the player we want . Personally I think he reads the game as well as any of our midfield players, and his ability to spot the runs of Redmond, Sims et al is exceptional. The fitness thing is a concern, but if a fully fit Ings plays 25-30 games next season we'll be OK
Indeed. Perhaps he will play a bit deeper, as someone else pointed out, clever footballer who can spot a run. Hope he stays fit.
Exactly this, Leibzig under Ralph had Forsberg who would drop deeper and do a similar thing. Can see Ings being the spark behind the pace of Adams/Djenepo. Exciting times!!
Danny: “Being a Southampton lad, I love Saints.” Jim “twat” White: “yeah but Danny, when do you plan on re-joining Liverpool.” Danny: “Never, I want to prove to Saints fans that I love them, the club and that I can get the goals they crave.” Jim “twat” White: “yeah but Danny, when do you plan on re-joining Liverpool?” Danny: “ I just said that I’m Saints through and through.” Jim “twat” White: “yeah but Danny, when do you plan on re-joining Liverpool.” Danny: “oh feck off you irritating twat”
