I've gone for Robert as i'm just to young to remember the best of Ginola properly. Was also funny when he knocked out Bernard, and his free kick in the win v Man U will live long in the memory.

Robert for me. Ginola was a bit before my time, and I absolutely loved Robert!

    Ginola wasn't left footed.

Also Robert was unstoppable for a good few seasons here. I think there was a spell when he first joined when he'd either scored or created every goal we scored for about 10 games! The stats back up Robert being #1 over Ginola:

    Robert - 129 games, 30 goals
    Ginola - 58 games, 6 goals

have to show my age and season ticket days but where is Scotty Sellars. May not have been the flash gits that Robert and Ginola were but with Lee, Clarkie, Beardsley, Cole and Bracewell passed and moved the Premier league into submission in 93. Cole would not have banged in 41 goals that season without his massive contribution.

My memory of Robert = talented with a cracking left peg, but an incredibly lazy player who sulked a lot.

Ginola for me. I was a young toon fan when he played for us and he could do no wrong in my eyes.

If anyone can't decide who to pick for football reasons, then look at the name 'David Ginola' - you can make the words 'vaGina Dildo' out of his name so this should make him the winner! <whistle>...

Excellent tip of the hat to him if nothing else!

Ripped Liverpool to shreds and handed Cole a hatrick on a plate! Them were the days!

Ginola all the way! Half of the Robert comments say 'I'm too young to remember Ginola', travesty if that's the logic!

Simply the best left-footed player Newcastle United have ever had.

not the best left footed player we've ever had waddle was better(but too many on here too young to remember the keegan playing years) than him and still not the best
also agree with the sellars comments

<doh>... stats don't cover the fact that Robert was a lazy so-and-so when it came to tracking back or the fact the only reason Ginola left was because Dalglish got shot of him and Sir Les! <grr>...

    What?

Did you ever see Robert when he ripped the Prem apart back in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003.. we ended 4th and 3rd respectively and Madrid/Barca were sniffing at him at that time!

Stats do cover the fact that Robert did a hell of a lot more for us than Ginola did. That was my point. On your bike :emoticon-0173-middl

Not that I particularly want to defend Joker (since he's a bellend), but your point doesn't exactly counter his. Without Olly Bernard covering two players defensive work there's no way Robert could've done what he did going forward. Ginola wasn't defensive minded at all but played a more free role with cover from the central midfield.
Robert made Beckham look like Rooney with the amount of running he did.

Yeah! That's very true I must admit! Robert's work-rate was pish poo..but you can't fault his attacking ability! At his best he was unplayable.. I haven't seen Ginola so I can't judge.. how good was he?

You've been trying to prove why Robert was the better of the two all thread and you're only now asking how good Ginola was because you never saw him? Insane! Ginola was seriously brilliant and despite the fact that I loved Robert (he was a fantastic player) I'm still very surprised to see him do better than Ginola. I know it is down to the average user age but it's still a shame, now I know how secret ingredient and co feel when legends of the 70s and 80s get brushed aside! Haha.
