I know Dylan wasn’t there. Donovan was always touted as Britain’s equivalent of Dylan. My comment merely reflected my opinion that there was no ****ing comparison between the two as Dylan was light years ahead.
The closest Donovan came to Dylan was they were once in the same hotel room. I like 'em both, but as you say, different leagues. Btw , the Kinks occasionally had a lousy stage presence. but many were brilliant performances. Ray Davies had to be one of the most prolific composers /lyricists in the business. Half the time his band members (including brother Dave) were out of it. Irony is one of Dave's own solo compositions...
That tends to happen when you bring out Johnny ****ing Marr and do This Charming Man. And on a lesser note the Pet Shop Boys. Though they'd smashed it well before that point, to be fair.
Must check that out. Never seen him live, but every recorded "live" concert I've seen, he certainly appears to be the most professionally genuine performer who looks as though he's really enjoying it. Putting everything he has into it. My brother in law, who must have been to a dozen live concerts says he's brilliant every time
I absolutely love The Kinks and agree about Ray Davies, truly brilliant. To be honest, I think they were totally pissed or drugged out of their heads at Bickershaw.
I hear the top being prised off a can of garden wrigglers here, but in order to answer the question, in the 60s he was briefly married to a 15 year old girl. In Texas. Legal age for the time and place.
I flicked between the two but settled on the Killers because I’d been drinking since the morning and the Chemical Brothers were hurting my head hurt a bit!
I played at Reading Festival in 98. It's not really relevant to the conversation but hey, it happened and I thought you should know. AAA pass and camped between The Wildhearts and Phil Mitchell. Living the dream.
Good call c-t-f. I recall listening to Peel's show in the late 70s and he was always going on about bring your teenage daughter the John Peel Roadshow this Saturday in Norwich haw haw. Teflon John he should be called such is his status at the nonce-ridden BBC. They've never come to terms with his crime in the States or pervy persona on his late night show. For every 'Teenage Kicks' he 'discovered, there were approx 200 **** songs/sessions/ B sides/total dross he also played.
