Which suggests we were poor at delivering on Plan A and it was just as well we had it as plan B, otherwise we may have been relegated.

Don’t get me wrong, if we can get some half decent money for him and invest it in a better option then I’m all for it. Just concerned that we don’t have many options up top right now. I think his contract only has one more year, so a good time to sell I guess.

If your objective is winning at all costs, or scraping a point by any means possible, if you don't truly care for the beautiful game, then Smith is an option. A horrible, horrible option. Sure, he has proved effective at times and scored a few crucial goals but I find someone with his pathetic lack of mobility as deeply offensive - it really grates with me - and not something I ever want to see at Loftus Road. Despite his height and physique, I refuse to believe that with training, he couldn't improve his running technique and his fundamental fitness so that he could get around the pitch much, much better than he does. My most wounding criticism of the man is to declare that he reminds me of Marc Nygaard: a tall man with very little else to offer. If we had eleven Matt Smiths - what an awful image that is - my season ticket would be history.

According to reports, Millwall baulked at buying him in last January's transfer window because of his high wages. I don't know what those wages are but I am sure, 100% sure, that we can spend that money more effectively.

What did you think of BFG1, Seb Polter?

I liked him, quite a lot actually. He wasn't technically gifted but he worked hard, got around the pitch, made a nuisance of himself and could score goals. Once he got up to speed, he took some stopping as well!

I think I’m about as effective a striker as Seb Polter.
Matt Smith is the last roll of the dice player for the last few minutes when all else has failed. I find it very worrying when he starts and despite his height I don’t think he’s great in the air!

I liked him a lot as well, but he wasn’t that much better than Smith.

You’d think SLF would be able to recognise a decent striker when he saw one

Meanwhile, Conor Washington is in advanced talks to join Hearts on a free transfer from Sheff Utd ( 16 games no goals ). SLF was DOF when he signed for QPR for £3 million. ( 98 games, 14 goals ) Charlie Austin scored 48 in 89 games. SLF wasn't director of football at the time when we signed him.

I never understood what it was JFH & SLF saw when they watched in CW in action b4 we bought him as Charlie's replacement because it certainly wasn't a natural goalscorer. But that's history now, assume our current plan is for another loan striker(s) i.e. Hogan as we clearly have no funds for anyone permanent.

We lack depth in quality in a number of positions, and this summer isn’t going to sort out years of poor decisions coupled with regular managerial changes and playing styles unfortunately.
We’ve struggled for some time scoring goals; but we really do need to plug the defensive side of our game. Stop the opposition scoring and you at least have a chance. A couple of loan forwards for this season would be OK (while we hopefully scout for someone permanent on the way up).

Despite last seasons 2 doing ok, I'm still traumatised by the loan signings of Will Keane and that lad from West Ham

Have to agree with that. If we can have a player for every position and then a decent young un to cover injuries suspensions etc then hopefully this season wont be as agonising as the others!!

I think that CW was possibly a panic buy. He did well at Peterborough, and had gone from non league to league 2 then 1 scoring goals for fun. The championship was always going to be a big step up. I do feel that maybe we should have loaned him to another league 1 club for another season however we did what we always do, spend big, then panic when things don't go too well.

At Sheff Utd, he was mainly used as a sub.

Matt Smith was an Olly signing. I think he will be a marmite player to discuss because although he stops goals being scored, he also gets a few but mobility can be an issue.

So, where do we find that 20 to 25 goals a season that we (and the other 91 clubs......well maybe 80 or so cause Citeh, Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spuds seem ok with theirs) that we need
