It has been noted that Sissoko was effectively playing RB at points last season with him babysitting Trippier, so it isn't 100% outside the realm of possibility...
In terms of priorities, I'd say: 1 - CM (x2) - this is the absolute necessity for Spurs because it not only improves our weakest area but it has a huge effect on the whole team. 2 - Keep Eriksen - if we can't, we absolutely must sign Ndombele and Lo Celso/ top CM to create a strong three man midfield alongside Sissoko with Dier/ Winks also competing for spots. If we keep him though and add the CMs, lord help opposition sides. *10 mile gap* 3 - Sign a RB - if we don't, it won't be a major issue providing the CMs are signed (points 2 and 3 just highlight how crucial the CMs are). 4 - Keep Toby - if we don't, either shift Dier back permanently or go for Andersen/ <new CB> who can challenge Jan and Dave. 5 - Add some attacking options - Clarke and Sessegnon fit this despite being young, plus the latter may be seen as a long term LB in time. Would be nice to get someone more established though. 6 - Sign and utilise a second striker more often. If we don't, then give Parrott some game time and/ or rotate Son/ Lucas up front in games for Kane and ensure Lamela (and Sess/ Clarke) gets sufficient game time to remain match fit.
Probably, but occasionally getting it wrong is better than chopping and changing on the basis of 'form'. It should be hard for players to break into being the first choice starters.
As I was working in Enfield today I swung by Hotspur way ,took a chance l might see Clarke or Ndombele turn up in a stretch Renault Clio supplied by DL I even took a dildo with me on the off chance I could stick it in the ear of a loitering Sky reporter but no such luck on all counts
You cannot do that with a weak(er) squad, as too many games are "must win" . The numbers tell you that. It usually takes group round 5 at the earliest to secure CL group 1st/2nd place. There are 3 League Cup games max in the first half of the season. So little opportunity to put out weaker starting XIs akin to the Palace FA Cup tie. After the Christmas schedule, if you are League Cup SF, then January is a mare given you have an extra 2 SF games + 1-2 FA Cup ties. So IMHO serious rotation of the squad, WITHOUT relying on injury opportunities, has to be done before the Christmas period arrives.
Back to Twitter whispers again and there's talk he may even possibly sign/ be announced today. Personally I doubt that because once his supposed medical is complete, contract signed and photos are taken, it'll usually be announced the day after around afternoon time.
Clarke Watch Is now a bad time to mention this probably means Marcus Edwards isn't long for the club? Right Back Watch The Grauniad claim we're looking at two players: Max Aarons and Steven Sessegnon Aarons would be the better option, and with AWB following in Wilfried Zaha's footsteps by headed to Old Trafford (shh, nobody tell him...) we would be best-placed to sign him...if Norwich tanked promotion last season, but they didn't so the best we can hope for is a buy-and-loan-back next January - Sessegnon, meanwhile, brings back the talk of a Buy One Sessegnon Get One Free deal that has been doing the rounds since pretty much last summer, which is more feasible (although it was also feasible three weeks ago...)
I would love it if we went in for AWB and offered the £50m plus KWP on loan. Even if only to piss off some of the more entitled Man U fans. I am very curious to see what happens in that position moving forward.
Lots of chatter this morning that we tried to bid £35m plus KWP for Wan Bissaka. We balked at the asking price eventually met by Utd. As disappointed as I am I have to say I agree. City paid the same for Walker who at the time was at his peak, fully capped international and had 2 seasons of CL football under his belt. AWB shows a lot of potential but he is miles off of that level at the moment. Apparently Palace do still see KWP as a possible replacement. I actually think Trippier would do really well under Hodgson but doubt he'd go from CL final to relegation scrap, especially if it's to be believed that the likes of Juve and Napoli are after him.
Yes. He's got a lot of potential and has all the raw minerals and is lightning quick but at 50m that is steep and i wouldnt want the club spending that much on him
Nor £100m on Maguire... That shot up! Mind you, A/Mad spending £115m on Felix, a relatively unproven 19yr old is ridiculous!
If it weren’t for the fact we so desperately need to spend big on CMs, I’d have personally happily seen the club spend £50m on AWB as I do think he’s the real deal but the CM is so important to us that it just has/ had to take priority. If we have funds to move for Aarons/ Atal or someone else then that’d be great but like I said yesterday, if we hypothetically bring in Ndombele and Lo Celso, I can live with another season of Trippier/ Aurier as first choice because chances are their job will become ‘easier’ once we hopefully start controlling the central midfield again.
