Decent move, they’ll be expecting to be challenging to go straight back up. They’re a yo yo club, can’t really sustain themselves in the championship but too good for league 1. If he goes there and they go up it could be a change to let him get champ experience there too

This Maguire thing is becoming a circus. Problem is, even if we bank a load of cash from him, other clubs will know we have that and what effect could that have on our subsequent purchasing? Also, we’ve sold a key player the last three years. If Maguire is not pushing for it, would it be of more benefit to stop that run and keep him. I see two different arguments when the effect on incoming players is mentioned. Some say it will reflect badly in terms of ambition and put players like Tielemans off and others that it’ll attract young talent if they know we won’t get in their way. It’s a difficult one

I wouldnt sell Maguire. We dont need the money and he is a good player. Is he worth anything like the numbers being thrown about? Never in a million years

And if Man U think he is the person that will solve all the defensive problems again they are terribly mistaken. I think Maguire is only as good as the defenders around him. His form yoyoed like Wes Morgans did and only when Evans got a run in the team did Maguire look like the defender we know he is again

IMO Evans is the best defender we have. He reads the game so well which is Maguire’s weakness at times. When De Ligt is offer for £65M and Mats Hummels goes for £37M. You have to question the madness in paying £80M+ for Slabhead

So from that sense I dont think we can lose whether Maguire stays or goes

But Top doesnt want us to be seen as a selling club. We have lost a key player every summer we have been in the Prem

Esteban Cambiasso didnt sign a new deal. His direct replacement was Gokhan Inler which didnt work but Kante more then made up

N’Golo Kante had a release clause that made us powerless to stop him going. Took us 6 months too long to replace him but found a great replacement in Ndidi

Danny Drinkwater forced his move and we got probably twice what he was worth. Just we made another bad attempt at replacing him with Adrien Silva. He didnt really get replaced until Youri Tielemans came in on loan

Riyad Mahrez again pushed his move through and was badly replaced with Ghezzal. But I think the team has much better balance and all round quality with Maddison, Ricardo and Tielemans covering Mahrez loss

I do feel though signing Tielemans is more important then keeping Maguire

Agreed with the assessments there. Given that Maguire has no clause, doesn’t appear to be forcing a move and we don’t need to sell, I’d rather keep the squad together.
Depends how much we can spend without selling I guess. For me it should be realistic to get Tielemans and say Bowen and Adams. Would be a good window but there’s been no indication we are after the latter two

If City really come in for him, he will go there IMHO ... he'll get to play CL football under Pep Guardiola in a team close to the top of it's game ... him and Laporte would be an amazing combination .. United are a basket case right now .. he is 26 and will be thinking trophies ... therefore City.

Man City wont pay £80M+ for him

Man City would be a much better move as he would start alongside Laporte

I think Maguire will stay though. If he does leave it wont hurt like Kante or Mahrez. Probably hurt as much as Drinkwater. We wanted him to stay but we got a good deal and knew replacing him wouldnt be the hardest thing in the world

And I wouldn't blame him or begrudge him the move to Man City (assuming that he didn't go mardy, on strike, AWOL or go sit in Manchester airport)!
Can't argue it wouldn't be a great opportunity.

We don't need to sell so are putting a whopping price on him and tbh that's not what he's worth. I don't think Man City are silly enough to pay it. I know they've spent millions but I was very surprised that Mahrez broke their transfer record.

I'd be disappointed if he went Utd as they are in disarray.

Although if they offer silly money, in many ways you can't argue against taking it. And I think we could cope, as mentioned.

As long as we spend the money on Tielemans!

If we got good money for Maguire, maybe put in a cheeky bid and save Lascelles from that sinking ship up north <whistle>

Sooo neither club meets our valuation ... sooo no sale.

    How is this news

Nice to see Justin coming in, sounds like a competent FB to cover Ricardo and Chilwell, if hes really good, we could push Ricardo up to RW to solve the problem there <laugh>

Man City and Man U are playing the old big club trying to publically bully and make Maguire force a move game. It worked with Mahrez but Maguire seems content to stay (although would no doubt go if we did agree) so they’ll have to stump up. Good that the non top 6 clubs can’t be bullied now as we have enough money not to have to sell

Manchester United have pulled out of the running to sign Leicester and England defender Harry Maguire after being told the 26-year-old will cost £100m. (Mirror)

I think Maguire will stay. It doesn't look like man city want him and what benefit would he get from going to united, nothing. He may well think he might as well give Rodgers a crack here for another season to see how we go. If we don't crack top six he may well leave this time next year but we could just as easy out perform Utd.

Off topic from our transfers (well Maguire being an example so related I guess) but has anyone else noticed the number of reports now that say ‘player x has agreed to join club a’ ‘ club a will now do a deal with club b’. Is a deal between the two clubs no longer required now or is the media just openly publicising tapping up? Clearly the media talk 99% **** as well

    Media BS

No one credible has said we have even recieved any offers for anyone. Sky spouted bollocks Man U and City told us they would pay £65M and we had been talking for weeks

More like they rang us every morning saying £65M and we just kept putting the phone down

But its happened before where clubs have given players permission to talk to the other club before they have agreed a fee.
