Chepstow 4.30 Pastfact ew @ 20/1. I think Rudey put this up lto only for the jockey to fall off at the gate. I'm hoping Mr Sweeney fares better than Mr O'Neil in that regard as this fella can be competitive of this mark. Has decent course form including a win.

It's a very quiet Monday, to be expected after the stellar week we had.
To liven things up a bit, here's one at Southwell that I cannot ignore:
    2.45 Ratfacemcdougall

    Good Luck.

Damnit Chan, I like an outsider in that race too but mine was ALFIE'S ANGEL (33/1). Yours was definitely in my dangers though!

In the bumper today I cannot ignore the old boy Henderson again. He has won both the bumpers ran in the last week and he targets bumpers at this track in particular. CRYSTAL GAZING has the pedigree for the job and although 7/4 is a bit skinny she is the most likely winner.

Another that catches my eye today is BALLYCRYSTAL COURT 6/1 Southwell 4.45
Looks primed and ready for a shrewd trainer and the jockey booking is real positive in my opinion.

So Blue Point is retired after his smashing double last week. However I read he is only the 2nd horse to achieve this feat in the last 100 years. Well I suppose he is but the only problem with that statement is that it has only been possible to achieve it since 2002, the Queen's Golden Jubilee year. Before that there was no such race. There was a 6f race for 3yos and upwards called the Cork and Orrery Stakes but this was a Group 3 event. Why would a Group 1 horse run in a Group 3 race: most unlikely. Even more unlikely when you consider that for many years the C&O was run on the Thursday of the then 4 day meeting and the Kings Stand was run on the Friday.

Early betting for Saturday!! Imo Gibbs Hill should be no fav for the Northumberland Plate- interestingly that I’m sure our royal correspondent can confirm or deny - Barney from first looks it looks that Withold has been sold by the greatest chairman in the premier league and is now in the ownership of Beckhampton Stables Ltd and even more interesting the horse with a big reputation and hasn’t even come close to confirming that (wasn’t helped by being giving the worst ride possible in the Ebor) owned by the same ownership that has apparently sold Withold has come in for a flourish of money. However my money is on the once county hurdle champion - SUPERB STORY who I’m sure Chelsea can confirm his first run for nearly 2 years was more than satisfactory!!

Tut tut, why didn’t Barney give us the word about Pacify? Surely it would have been passed onto him by the old duchess last week?

Are you sure about that change of ownership re Withhold??? He had a horror trip to Australia at the backend of last year (the horse not connections) and it would be quite a feat for him and a training accomplishment by Mr Charlton to get him back to win such a competitive heat first time up.

Personally I loved Gibbs Hill as a 4YO but similar sentiments apply re him giving his huge absense from the track. Maybe Mr Ponsonby (who is much loved on Tyneside) will oblige and send the Geordie’s home happy with Who Dares Wins – which also happens to be the motto of the Ponsonby family.

But Superb Story has next to no chance of getting in ‘The Plate’ or ‘Richard Pitman’s Derby’, as some call it, (we don’t need a text from the owner to tell us that) but will get a run in the consolation race (called I think The Vase) should connections wish.

Can I just touch on Newcastle, at the weekend, again for a moment.

Superb Story has, this morn, been headlined tipped by ‘The Weekender’s’ flagship (the publications word not mine) tipster for the £75k ‘Vase’ on Saturday. This journo must also be getting texts from the owner as he states the plan would be to win easily at the weekend, get a big ratings increase and then head to the ultimate objective a £120k handicap at Newmarket’s ‘July meeting’ next month.

Now re Gibbs Hill he has just been put in next month’s ‘horses in training’ sale. Now the cynic in me wonders if they have done the old trick of training this horse to the second, achieveing a big result on Saturday (either a win or a very close loss) and then look to cash in, big time, when the horse is at the peak of his powers (and won’t get any better). Just me thinking aloud on Gibbs Hill (haven’t read anything or had a text from the owner) but it’s an intriguing move given how he has been punted in recent days...
