Oh okay, Well I think we won't see him leaving until July anyway.. I am told that the bonuses they get go live from the 1st? Then you'll prob see a lot more happening.
No link to Saints, but I just watched this guy score a hat trick for Canada against Cuba today. Only 19, and has a great goal scoring record for Gent. Even better for his country. The perfect Saints signing! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_David_(soccer)
It's weird, between David and Davies, to actually have genuine international-quality prospects who grew up in Canada.
He actually was born in NY. His parents are from Haiti, but they emigrated to Canada when he was 6. I just watched some of his goals on YouTube. He would be perfect for us, young, probably wouldn't cost the earth, and unfortunately we would probably make a big profit, when Saints would sell him!
Hence 'grew up in Canada' rather than born. Davies likewise was born in Ghana but was raised in Edmonton, both are products of Canadian youth football...the quality of our homegrown talent is a heck of a lot better than it was a decade ago.
When I was last in Canada it was during the World Cup and the amount of interest was surprising - flags with various countries everywhere. Also, lots of ethnic families were definitely into their football - it wouldn't surprise me if Canada become a decent side soon or at least qualify for the World Cup.
https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/1...hampton-duo-fraser-forster-and-alex-mccarthy/ Echo report that no offers have come in for Forster and McCarthy. Not surprised about Forster as he has scarcely played so any team would be taking a risk...the only teams that might be prepared to take that risk could never afford him. Interesting that it is said that Forster is the most consistent in training. As for McCarthy, he may be seeking a move, but, if he doesn't get one, he is still a very good keeper to have here.
Yeah, we should be better than we have been, that's for sure. The sport has been huge in the country for decades, particularly with the kids of immigrants, but the infrastructure was never there. And what talent was developed in Canada generally ended up playing for the countries of their parents' birth because, well, who would want to get the stuffing beaten out of them by Ecuador for the next decade. Granted, our youth teams still lose to the likes of Saint Kitts and Nevis, so Canada's probably not going to be winning the World Cup any time soon, but maybe in 2026 we'll score a goal or something.
Was in Vancouver back in early May. As we booked into the hotel the guy asked me which team did I support in the UK. I naturally said Saints....to which he blew a raspberry..........He said he supported United!! His mate popped up and said no Chelsea were better.........than the porter chipped in and said No Arsenal were the greatest.........Naturally I threatened to check out again............All of them were Canadians I gather Vancouver is football mad. Certainly saw quite a few pitches when out and about.
Quite liked the look of him when I watched Charlton in the playoffs, but I'd imagine he would've only been a bit part player here to begin with so can't really blame him for going for first team football https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/...opts-for-rangers-ahead-of-southampton-switch/
They have just started up the Canadian Premier league. I know in Calgary it has gone over well. At the last game on Saturday, they had around 5,000 in attendance. Things are definitely looking up.
Yep, I was in Calgary a couple of weeks ago, our son is a season ticket holder with the "Cav's" and he took me to watch them play Hamilton in a cup match. Very enjoyable with vociferous support. Only thing fazed me was when the crowd started their rendition of " O When the Cav's Go Marching In" didn't know wether to be flattered or outraged! Annoys me when Spurs sing it but at least in Calgary they dispensed with the slow dirge version and sang it at the correct tempo. Good day out though.
