Hate to point out that I said so....VAR should be limited to obvious errors missed by the ref...things that are a matter of opinion should be left to the man on the field. No idea how you implement that....other than fining VAR officials if they get too trigger happy...genie and the bottle come to mind.
There was an incident last night where a shot from outside the area hit a Norway defender’s hand and was deflected for a corner. The commentators picked up on it but it was missed by the referee and, presumably, the VAR officials. Isn’t that the sort of thing they should be alerting the ref to?
Apparently VAR will not be used to check if GKs come off their line during a penalty in the PL next season....that will be a huge consolation to the Scotland girls
Stupid to use VAR for that. For me, the goalkeeper has to be miles off their line for me to award a retake. I'm talking of at least 2 steps off the line. FIFA are overusing VAR. It sounds like the PL are going to be more sensible with it (not using it for GKs off the line, not having a monitor at the side of the pitch). I'm confident it won't be nearly as overused in the PL.
It's amazing how fifa have completely botched something as straightforward as var. It just seemed to be implemented in a completely stupid and simplistic fashion as if the people involved lack any ability to actually consider anything outside of their extremely narrow perspective. Seriously if you just tightened it up from the start with A clear idea of what VAR is used for and not used for, especially the later. No way should it be used for everything, I'd use it for goal decisions, penalty decisions and red cards. Less is more. Wire up the var ref so people know what is being said, show the pictures so fans can see the decision. You know, like in pretty much every major sport that uses a var type system like tennis, cricket, etc. Only give managers a certain number of challenges. They can keep them if they're successful, lose them if they aren't. Like cricket. That way you wouldn't have a delay for every single decision because var wouldn't be used for every incident, just when there is a challenge. Plus it adds an extra level of tactics as coaches will have to decide whether it's worth using a challenge or not. Just these three simple things would make a huge difference and they're so obvious that I have no idea how fifa haven't been able to come up with such ideas themselves. Seriously, the way var has been implemented has been like getting a group of 12 year olds to run a supermarket, none of whom have any experience of how a shop works, they've just gone shopping with their parents before.
Trouble is VAR is ok in a tight situation IE in the penalty box perhaps. Unfortunately for me the problem is in open play just before an incident in the box, where the ref misses an incident which if he had would have cancelled out the var in the box.
This is about to get messy. I'm a little scared for them. Why are they so angry? Its just a game.......
