I actually shouted a despairing "oh **** off Frankie!" in the closing stages there...and this time he did, thank God. After 2 seconds yesterday, and 2 today, I needed that as much as Ryan Moore did
Boiled over in the prelims, sweating down the neck, never really going. That wasn’t her running mate.
Pretty weak excuse sweating, she ran her race imo, gd second in a g1, like Phoenix of Spain she isnt as good as it looked that day.
down royal,6 50: well,i deserted RASHAAN last time out,but,as he is one of my favourite horses,that wont happen again today,and i hope,he rewards me,like so often before.just a pity,he wont be 16-1 today,lol!
Maybe. The Phoenix of Spain Curragh form always looked suspect, I didn’t feel the same about the Irish 1000, and still don’t. Hermosa never looked like she was travelling today, her class got her 2nd. Of course we won’t really know how good she is until she runs against colts or older animals. She is still a top class filly though imo. She couldn’t do what Attraction and Winter did - and that filly of Bolger's - Finscal Bea was it? - but that doesn’t mean she isn’t very good.
Just catching up on the racing. I have to say what a ride from Hayley turner in the Sandringham. She is tv gold and the best headline of the week for our sport. Ascot. Is a nightmare for winners my betting has been embarrassing. Mug punting.
Hermosa's last six runs on RPR's were 110, 110, 110, 113, 117 and 113. It looked a poor Guineas at Newmarket from a long way out and the ill fated Lady Kaya was only beaten a length despite the trainer immediately stating that she had not stayed and would go sprinting. Pretty Pollyanna lined up at the Curragh with stamina questions and she had missed the Newmarket Guineas after a poor workout. Hermosa has beaten her by a bit further today than in Ireland and she also beat Just Wonderful by further as well. I think the 3YO fillies are poor as milers this season and someone should tell Aidan O'Brien that Just Wonderful does not belong in Group 1 company. Looking at Hermosa's last six runs the most obvious conclusion is that the Irish Guineas race was overrated. Assessors seem obsessed with forcing bigger ratings because a race was a Classic or a Group 1, rather than just conclude that it was a below par renewal. Pretty Pollyanna was given an official rating of 117 for landing the Prix Morny but she has looked well short of that since and surely the Handicapper must act now and lower her from a ridiculous looking official figure of 116. Even the Tooth Fairy isn't buying into that mark anymore.
