A slight respite from me and my ramblings - I have doc appointment in 20 minutes .... will catch up when back - play nicely please
Comp naps ..... 6 for Hermosa, 5 for Ten Sovereigns and 3 for Japan. 5 people had the winner in the first, but no one else scored.
market rasen,3 30: not easy to work out, with no less than 4 last time out scorers on show here, but ballyfarsoon and moidore took a long time to get their respective first wins over hurdles,so not sure to back it up today.that leaves,in my opinion, only DIAMOND ROSE and royal beekeeper, and maybe buck bravo as the only serious candidates.preference is for julian smiths mare, who opened her account with a good performance at ludlow, and though shes gone up 4 lbr,is far less exposed than most here,so there might be some progress to come from her..
Back! Not good news .... doc says I haven't got long. Says not to risk anything in the 5-35 Another Dettori day by the look of it - well done Oddy, who'd a thunk it?
Last Surprise WAS last. Some turnaround for Crisford from yesterday's opener. A suicide race for punters really but the Favourite did the business. Once more the Ward runners didn't shine at 6F and Nayibeth didn't manage to beat her less fancied stablemate, reflecting Ward's comment that he could not split the pair. Japan was 10 lbs clear on all ratings and it looked that way, surely a heavy favourite for the St Leger even if this was a poor renewal. Pondus would not settle and paid the price, while Private Secretary looked all along like a horse who was overrated for winning a very poor Listed race last time. Not a strong race but at 7/2 with William Hill for the St Leger you could not really argue. Paddy Power only go 7/4 and that is a bit skinny with other Ballydoyle colts yet to show how they have come on since the Derby. My Guineas selection Advertise bounced back in grand style but I could not back him after such a dismal show at Newmarket. Ten Sovereigns was a horse I backed for the race at 16/1 after his debut win and the news that he would run again quickly. I was not that impressed with him second time up and got quite a lot of stick for being critical of him but I was never confident about him at any stage after that second run and his Guineas race left me cold. Hello Youmzain may do better in the autumn on really soft ground particularly if he learns to behave himself better, I think he is a bit better than he showed today and the going had dried up a bit much for him. I'll have a small bet on Jubiloso to upset Hermosa but this is a huge step up for her.
Bit of a shocker there. Watch Me won the Prix Imprudence by a short head from Suphala but was only 6th in the French Guineas. It was heavy in the French Classic though. Perfectly decent run from Jubiloso stepping up in class but not quite good enough on the day. Moore's potentially big day not quite panning out and it just shows what a huge day Frankie had yesterday.
Mmm, the commentator immediately mentioned that Hotsy Totsy had taken her time leaving the stalls. I am not sure if that was deliberate but it was clear that the filly was too far back at the business end of the race. It seemed to take the jockey longer than he had intended to get a clear run and I knew the game was up because she would have needed to have been Minding to win from the position she was in. Hopefully she stays on a workable mark for compensation and I am not sending Frank Spencer a virtual pint this evening. It's little wonder that we don't see him in the Royal Ascot winner's enclosure very often.
Can the burst Condom do it? Johnny Drama looked progressive last time but the handicapper gave him a good kick in the nuts for his trouble. Unexposed though and interesting coming over from Ireland for this. Baghdad looks short enough and with Corgi being shorter in the betting and drawn right next to Johnny Drama I went for the Irish raider hoping he has them tightly covered and doesn't shoot his load too early.
