    South Stand Planning Application

Blues to install new lighting and television gantry

please log in to view this image

Portsmouth FC have submitted a planning application, which includes alterations to the roof of the South Stand.

This involves building a new television gantry and the addition of eight t-bar light frames along the main truss.

New lighting – a mix of LED and halogen bulbs – is being installed, which adheres to EFL requirements and takes into account any potential need for VAR at Fratton Park.

This new lighting is being installed during the close season, with the television gantry planned for the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

The iconic Archibald Leitch-designed South Stand is also undergoing a recladding programme, which is set to be completed for the start of the forthcoming season.

Pompey would like to thank fans and local residents for their continued support while this work is being undertaken.

    Has Nathan Thompson actually left?
If not this signing probably increases the chances he will. Whilst Nathan has been great at 24 James possibly has more potential.
On another note please keep the updates coming Woopert. The Portsmouth Evening News now requires readers to registar but excludes overseas readers from registering!! All I can do on their website is read the headlines!!

Nathan Thompson is still officially a Pompey player, but from what I have read, he does appear almost certainly to depart Fratton Park in due course on a free transfer. Talking of the Portsmouth News, I was already registered with them, but keep being told to re-register. When I try to do so, it won't let me !!
I tend to read the comments on Facebook, where there are various Pompey related groups.

Pompey apparently are chasing a reunion with Charlton's 31 year old defender Jason Pearce - but Sunderland and Oxford United also keen.

Jason started in our academy, but joined Bournemouth in 2007 on a free transfer before he even made his debut for PFC. We bought him back from the Cherries in 2011, but were forced to sell him to Leeds Utd, due to our financial problems, in 2012. He then played for Wigan Athletic, before joining Charlton in 2016 where he has played 74 games, scoring 5 goals. 6' 1" in height.

Pompey have apparently had a bid of around £650,000 for Peterborough United's 27 year old striker Matt Godden turned down.

Previously with Stevenage Borough, the 6' 1" striker scored 14 goals in 38 matches last season for the 'Posh'.

Pompey may return with an increased offer.

Adam May has signed for Swindon Town on a season long loan agreement. Good move for him, as doubtful that he would have made that many first team appearances for Pompey next season.

Portsmouth and Sunderland are battling it out to the signing of Plymouth forward, Freddie Ladapo according to a report from Plymouth Live.

It is claimed that the two League One heavyweights are close to agreeing a fee for the striker who has been a rare bright spark in a relatively disappointing season for Argyle.

6' 2" striker Ladapo netted 19 goals in total despite Plymouth being relegated to League Two on the final day of the season.

This has meant that potential departures are on the cards over the summer at the club, and Ladapo is seemingly heading for the exit door in the near future.

It remains to be seen as to where Ladapo’s preferred destination would be, but Portsmouth will surely be doing everything they can to strike a deal with the 26-year-old.

    George Edmundson (on the right)

Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson has been linked with a move to West Brom, but he looks set to join League One side Portsmouth according to The Mirror.
Pompey boss Kenny Jackett is keen to recruit the centre-back as they look to replace Matt Clarke, who appears set for an exit.

The Mirror claims that the League One outfit have offered a fee around £650,000 for the 21-year-old, and have seen their bid accepted.

The 6' 3" tall central defender featured 45 times for Oldham last season and even managed to chip in with two goals for his team.

Premier League Burnley have apparently joined Championship sides Millwall, Leeds Utd and Wigan Athletic in chasing the signature of Pompey winger Jamal Lowe.

That should push the price up then !!

Portsmouth close in on former Aberdeen and Celtic winger Gary Mackay-Steven.

please log in to view this image

Pompey are poised to make Gary Mackay-Steven their second signing of the summer. The 5' 9" left-footed winger is out of contract at Aberdeen, where he made 30 appearances and scored seven times last season.

The free agent is expected to sign for the Blues this week, joining James Bolton as the new faces at Fratton Park so far this summer.

A Scotland international, the 28-year-old also numbers Celtic, Dundee United and Airdrie as former clubs.

We are going to be overloaded on the left-wing unless Jackett is going to have Curtis playing a flexible forward role, which I think would be good, rather than have a target man as the lone striker. After all the European Champions do not have a fixed target man, but forwards that interchange. Pompey need to do the same with Curtis, Pitman and A.N, Other, mabe Dennis!!

If Jamal Lowe does depart in the Summer, Ides, then Ronan Curtis (who is basically right footed) can play on the right wing and the new possible signing can play left wing.

Kenny Jacket knows what he is doing, and where we need strengthening :emoticon-0148-yes:

Looking at that clip, he is a very talented player. Would be great to get him. Transfer fee. But you would suspect others higher up the pecking order will also be interested.

What do you reckon Woopert's of a mobile forward line, a la Liverpool with the three strikers interchanging their positions as it is eay for defenders to man mark a target man. As for Hawkins, I reckon he is a very valuable member of the squad, and a starting place needs to be found for him, but he requires the ability to interchange with the other players.

I reckon that a forward line of wingers Ronan Curtis and the (hopefully) new signing of Gary Mackay-Steven, alongside either Brett Pitman/Oli Hawkins/Louis Dennis could work well, if as you say they can keep mobile, supporting each other in attack. It worked well last season with Oli Hawkins winning the majority of balls in the air and laying them off to the two wingers putting them into good scoring positions.

We are apparently no longer interested in Plymouth striker Freddie Ladapo, which I am pleased about, as apart from last season, his previous seasons were fairly nondescript as a goalscorer.

Pompey strongly linked with 25 year old Ipswich Town striker Ellis Harrison, previously of Bristol Rovers, who has been spotted today at Pompey's Roko training ground at Hilsea. The 5' 11" Welsh born striker cost Ipswich £750,000 last Summer, but had a difficult first season with the Championship team, due to injury, and not being played much by their new manager Paul Lambert who replaced previous manager Paul Hurst mid-season.

Former Welsh under 21 international. Scored 44 goals in 185 matches for former club Bristol Rovers.

Apparently Pompey are no longer in the running for MK Dons 25 year old forward Chuks Aneke on a free transfer, due to competition from amongst others Hearts and Hibernian, as well as Championship clubs Barnsley, Hull and Wigan. We probably can't compete with the wages being offered by some of the other clubs.

PORTSMOUTH FAIL IN BID TO SIGN 6FT 7IN DEFENDER.
please log in to view this image

Portsmouth have been knocked back in their attempt to sign Stoke City’s young centre-back Harry Souttar, according to Football Insider.

Kenny Jackett is eager to bring in more defensive options with star man Matt Clarke closing in on a move to Brighton and Hove Albion after a fee of just under £4million was agreed.

The 6ft 7in Potter spent the second half of the previous season on loan with Fleetwood Town in League One and impressed during his 11 appearances under Joey Barton.

But unfortunately for Pompey Nathan Jones has big plans for the 20-year-old next season with a move away, either permanently or on loan, looking very unlikely, according to the report.

Souttar is yet to make his league debut for Stoke since moving from Dundee United back in 2016 but has appeared twice in the League Cup.
