I'm off to Goodwood on friday to enjoy an Evenings racing followed by a DJ set by Disciples + R3wire & Varski. ( Yep no idea either). If anyone knows of anything likely to have a chance to win me enough to cover my beer tokens I would greatly appreciate the help.
Sounds like something everyone on here would love to stay and enjoy. Are they your disciples Stick? One I’d look at in the parade ring is Sovereign Beauty, who to me could win that race on debut. Sapa Inca looks well in under a penalty whilst Reeves has strong form and might be an ok price. And talking of stick, views on Black Kalanisi going onto the flat?
Not often I put up the favourite for a bumper and even rarer that I put up a Hendo nag, I usually leave our knighted friend to that. However, I have to tomorrow as the dam was an impressive once raced bumper winner for Pip Hobbs back in the day and with a little luck she will have passed on her ability to this son of Flemensfirth CRAIGNECHE 15/8 Market Rasen 5:20
With drying weather, the soft ground might start getting a little sticky. The Epsom form came unstuck in the Ascot Oaks but it looks a lot stronger in the Ascot Derby, with Epsom third Japan clearly the best horse in the race on known form and seemingly amenable to any ground conditions. Obviously Private Secretary will have his supporters after the Gold Cup day that Frankie enjoyed, but he is stepping up in trip and needs to find a stone of improvement. On a straight line of form through the Derby winner, Pablo Escobarr is up against it as Japan was more than three lengths closer albeit on better ground. It is hard to make a case for Humanitarian or Bangkok on their Derby running but the thrice-raced Pondus could be the springer here – I can see Oisin Murphy setting off to make all. The Coronation Stakes sees a clash between English, Irish and French classic winners but one filly is two of them. Unbeaten Pouliches winner Castle Lady will have no problems with the ground but that simply did not look a good renewal and the runner-up took the same spot in the Prix de Diane and the form has not been advertised by the others; notably East ducks the rematch. The 1000 Guineas winner Hermosa followed up at The Curragh, where Pretty Pollyanna made her seasonal bow and now needs to find four lengths with the Ballydoyle filly. Just Wonderful has been behind Hermosa in both classics, giving her little chance at the third attempt. Twist 'n' Shake just failed to catch Maqsad on debut but this is a big step from a neck second in a Listed race. The ground is likely to be the determining factor in the Commonwealth Cup. Ten Sovereigns won the Middle Park, probably did not get home in the Guineas and will be hard to beat if he does not get stuck in the mud. Jash was narrowly beaten in the Middle Park, has won over further but has never run on ground with ‘soft’ in the description and was hardly impressive last time. Can we take Hello Youmzain beating Calyx at face value? Probably not but he did win in France last year when it was soft, so he comes here with place chances. Advertise ran no sort of race in the Guineas, drops back to sprinting and has never encountered easy ground – but Frankie is on him!
Redcar for me Anybody wanting a badge see me at owners and trainers at 12:30 Oddy when you over let me know and I'll do the same again !!!! Stay frosty xx
Ascot 5.35 Kasperenko 28/1 with sky and on the drift. Just the ew bet with the other two that were given taking different routes the choice is yours
Another trappy opener for day 4 with some very nice and potentially exciting fillies. However I'm hoping for a nice bit of ew thievery on Lil Grey in the Albany. From an unfashionable stable she is available at 33-1. Should handle the conditions and has already won over 6f and been 2nd over 7f.
Morning 3.40 Royal Ascot-Advertise Each Way @ 8-1 [Boylesports] Another good day for Frankie looks on the cards
Agree with that but I’ve also backed the other AOB horse in the first. Finally going to be able to watch a bit of the racing today.
Galadriel’s run at York reminded me of the Mackem bullet’s debut at Carlisle where she was too green to do herself justice. Today she will –I hope – learn from the York run and put that experience to good use. Unlike many of today’s field I expect her to be a 6 f specialist. Her sire, Dutch Art was just such a horse, having only ever won at5/6 furlongs, when tried over further he came up short. Her dam Handbell was a poor competitor for Luca Cumani running four times in class 5 events and winning once at Wolverhampton over 6f when tried over 7 f comments was that she found nil in the final furlong. The one cloud is the trainers form, whose last win was on June 10 after which his 25 runners have all been beaten.
Agree. She ran very green at York but finish like a train over 5f. Today has a good draw and up in trip, maybe the ground is a concern.
Hermosa and Japan both run without a nose band not sure about ten sovereigns, he could be the weakness in the treble. I’ll be interested to see which kit he runs in.
The Japan/Hermosa double will be popular today, but both are very skinny prices. If they're poor value as singles then imo doubling them up makes for even worse value, not better. I'll probably regret not doing it though, could look like very easy money by about 4.30pm. Pretty Pollyanna was 4 lengths behind Hermosa at the Curragh, but I'm tempted to pay to find out if she can get a bit closer this time. I won't be going near Ten Sovereigns, so that'll probably win in a canter.
