If he gets the time he needs it’s a strong possibility. A stronger possibility is that they’ll sack him this time next year.
Have any of our “rivals” made any significant signings of players anyone here would want? I’ve seen loads of names signed by a few (Peterborough particularly) but know zero about any of them. Until a rival signs someone like a Marquis etc I’ll not worry Kind of backed up by this: https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...ummer-as-sunderlands-rivals-strengthen-289548
Hey MBC, I come in peace, he's no better than Wyke, we are a bigger better place to play football, but our regime want to sign sh@te on their budget to clean up. If we sign same same as the Fleetwoods and Accringtons and lose players to DONCASTER because as James say's have more ambition !!! Don't you see ???
It's safe to say Marquis is a better player, he scored 26 goals for Donny last season compared to Wyke's 3, even if you double that to 6 to cover the games he missed there's still a huge gap. I'd like us to be signing championship quality players so we go up and stay up but if it's not viable financially what can you do. We don't want to be riddled with debt again do we.
James never once said that. He said: Speaking to the Doncaster Rovers media team, he said: “I had a conversation with Grant [McCann] and Cliff Byrne and they sold the club to me, the ambitions they both have match mine and that is to challenge for promotion. “That made my decision an easy one and my mind was made up that I wanted to sign for the club. So what you’re saying is that Jack Ross said “Reece were just gonna look to sit in the league this season”?? Or something like? He didn’t say they had more ambition, he said they match his. Chances are he’s been told he won’t be first choice with us which means we obviously have higher ambitions than they do! Seriously man!! Also to, as nacho says, say that Marquis with 26 goals is no better than Wyke with 3 goals shows an utter disregard for facts. In peace or not, your comments make no sense at all
Sadly the only game I attended season was the Doncaster game at the SOL. Although we completely dominated the game the stand out player by a mile was Marquis. His movement off the ball, his hold up play and general awareness of space was impressive for a team who at that time were struggling. If he had any kind of service we would have had an issue with him. He would be a massive improvement on what we have right now, but he has to have the right kind of service for him to be able to shine. For me Wyke is one dimensional, a good honest player but not in the same category as Marquis.
So his and Doncasters are higher than ours ......according to Reece, don't back your argument up with hypothetical, chances are he's been told, that doesn't stack up mate.
???? You don't know what he's been told by Ross and neither do I which means you are a hypocrite as you are basing your point on hypotheticals - Do you think Ross told him our aim isn't as high as Doncaster's as this is your point? He wouldn't have gone to Doncaster if he was guaranteed first team here. That is in no doubt Reece stated that their ambition matched his and that is to push for promotion. What did Jack Ross say to him then? As you seem to be in the know. Unless you're privi to information I am not then you are guessing and assuming the worst - which seems to be your thing
Every club with half a chance of it are going to say they want to get promoted. And saying "I can achieve my ambitions at this club" is standard new signing waffle. None of it means Doncaster are more ambitious than us.
Have you compared Wyke and Marquis records one the past few season ? Check the facts Not much in it, as many fans say, he's no better than what we have.
I can only go on what James said, based on what he'd been told by Ross and Doncaster I would assume. He left because he felt there was more ambition at Doncaster.
I reserve judgement on Marquis, he failed to score in the two televised games he featured in back end of the season, missing the crucial penalty in the semi final shoot out against Charlton. Anyone can have an off day of course, but he showed little in the way of skill, in either game tbh. Maybe arrange a swap deal, could be good for both players and clubs.
His ‘ambitions’ were to play. Donny offered him games thus fulfilling his ‘ambitions’. Simple as that mate.
They will have told him he can play, I don’t doubt. I’m not fully disagreeing with you in some ways, we need to show some teeth, I just don’t feel this move has any bearing, personally.
