That's what I think, too. But that means if we continue to start Redmond (which we should), he's playing a midfield/winger role along with Djenepo. Which means it is hard to find a place for not606 faves JWP, Boufal, and Sims. I dunno. I mean, I'm not trying to argue over exactly who stays and who goes and who plays where. I'm just kind of like... this board loves hoarding players, and they love a good scapegoat. So it's like every time we bring in a player "Good bye Moi" "Goodbye Austin." You can only cross those players off once!
Doesn't Ralph want to play 4 at the back? So 2 wingers? Meaning we need 4 if you include back up? So my guess: Sims Redmond Djenepo Boufal?
I don't think we would pay this much for Adams and Djenepo not play them. And we can't take Redmond off the pitch. So that leaves JWP in limbo a bit. This is a similar situation. Where does JWP play? We could move him into the generic/defensive midfield group where we could have Lemina, Hojbjerg, Romeu and JWP. But I'm not sure JWP starts. And is he happy being a flexible utility midfielder type off the bench for yet another season? But yeah, if we play with 2 wingers, then 4 is about the right amount of wingers to carry. 2 to start, and 2 backups. I was trying to keep it simple by keeping things formation-free a bit. But if Hassenhuttl wants to keep the squad tight, we're looking at 8 attackers of some kind. Which means at least a couple of players other than Elyounoussi or Austin have to go. Everyone can work out for themselves who they'd like, but it's going to be someone who hasn't been written off half a dozen times already.
Isn't it 4222 with two people for each of the positions (whether it's wingers or not)? So currently we have: Def Mid - Romeu, JWP, Lemina, Hojberg Att Mid - Djenepo, Redmond, Boufal, Sims Fwd - Ings, Adams, Long, Obafemi
Ralph has made it very clear that JWP should be pushing for an attacking mid place, I don’t think he sees him as a DM.
JWP forced his way into the side last season by playing very well indeed and a bit of extra healthy competition won’t do the squad or him any harm. We need variety and two strikers, plus Redmond & Djenepo is a bit too cavalier against most prem sides. Ings injury record and a need for workers in midfield might see him be the one to make way more than James.
Call this a Saint ! Thread The summary says holding the ball is a weakness, but a lot of the comments from Blues fans think that’s unfair. Some of the defending is terrible, but some good and varied finishing amongst these clips. Not much with the noggin’. We’re going for quick midgets in 2019/20
A pacy, powerful, direct nuisance. Clearly has an eye for goal and once he gets the idea in his head he pulls the trigger quickly. I like this signing. Think he could play with Ings or Long quite nicely. Makes a lot of sense for Ralph's preferred systems from his days in Germany too.
