Didn't the Australian womens team ( ranked fifth in the world ) lose 7-0 to a team of 15 year old boys quite recently?
Well, that was over 3 years ago, hardly quite recently and as I say, I believe the standard of the top teams has gone up remarkably. Also, it was nowhere near the Aussies first choice side.
Not sure any of you have watched the England ladies side this season, but hey, each to their own. I know what I've seen.
Col is like that kid in The Sixth Sense. He sees things that no one else can. I do actually think that the standard of women's football has improved a lot in the last few years. England might be League Two standard.
They’d be destroyed physically. No chance IMO. Doesn’t mean it can’t be an entertaining sport in its own right.
No, now that they are 18 it would be 10-0. I really enjoyed watching the Lionesses. The football is much quicker than it was a few years ago.
You can not compare the men’s game to the woman’s game. If a different sport completely. When you do that you can appreciate the woman’s game more.
Not sarcasm Col, just a bit of jesting. I probably should've added what Wherever posted in addition but had to pop out. After dinner last night (FridayI had a quick look to see what was on and saw that the Ladies team were playing Argentina and turned it over to watch. The missus wasn't too happy though and these were her exact words ... '' Why have you put this **** on? It's rubbish. If you don't turn it off I'm going in the other room.'' And she likes football but can't and won't watch women play it. I myself don't mind it and watched most of the last World Cup. I thought England scored a really good goal last night and went to tell the wife but she still didn't want to know. Some teams look ok and some are really poor. Take the USA v Thailand ( 13-0 ) the other night, it was like men v lady-boys. I think you've hit the nail on the head Wherever.
It's slower, less physical, less technical, less power in the shots, slower reactions from the keepers and defenders, no high-profile names (when the pundits in the studio are more famous than those on the pitch?), it's totally over-hyped in the quest for equality (sorry) - it'll never equal the skill and speed of the mens game, end of.
Until this reply I didn't realise you were talking about female footy For some reason at the moment you can't get away from ladies rugby When did everyone start to care about girls sports Beach volleyball aside
I think there may be a little misunderstanding here. I don't think the women's game can ever compete with the men's, or ever, obviously compete against men. I don't think the women will ever be as good as the men. I simply believe that the women's game has improved at the top level (which, with the right funding could well trickle down) and that the technical ability is unrecognisable from 2-3 years ago. Jeez!
We've got the Soccer Aid game on. I know it's sad, but I find myself wanting the ROW to win because John Terry's playing for England.
England would be 3 or 4 up if it wasn't for Cesar and Clattenberg not giving a clear penalty. All the female players holding their own against mainly men. Who'd of thunk it? 2-0 England .
