Shola was a technically excellent player. His problem IMO was mental not physical. He never didn’t try but quite a lot of the time he wasn’t focused. If he had Shearer beside him throughout his career then he would have scored significantly more goals as Shearer would “bully” Shola into playing when Shola was “strolling”. Always liked him but left with the overriding feeling that he never quite made the most of his undoubted talent.
I'd almost forgotten that gait of his: looked like he was going to fall over and break his leg at any moment but then he would somehow have stumbled his way past three defenders and the ball would be in the back of the net. Magic when it worked. Maddening when it didn't.
Souness definitely didn't help his cause - played him regularly with an ongoing hip problem which massively affected his mobility afterwards.
I'm happy to see Shola back at the club but does he really know anything about loaning players out? Without being disrespectful, wor Shola never struck me as being the sharpest tool in the box!. You really have to be able to relate to the young players and understand their unique personalities. Prove me wrong, Shola
That's the very opposite of appearing bright. I'm getting into dangerous territory, so to clarify I'm making reference to the colour of his skin and not the intelligence of black people.
