Because we can't afford to release him and no one else is going to want him off us, given his age. The best we can hope for is that he announces his retirement.
Maybe a package of Loovens, Love and Max might just do it, just. Tottenham used to con us with that sort of thing a year or two back.
Been waiting eagerly for this and I'm underwhelmed. Shame about Max going but wants first team spot so good luck to him.
Don't think he appeared after being sent off at Pompey,it was hinted at the time that he was injured, hence we didn't appeal the sending off even though it was another harsh decision and probably cost us the game.

Love "I want to add some young players to the squad as well as some senior players and both of them have got really good potential and the opportunity to improve," said Moyes. "I want to bring in players who are here for the long term as well as the short and hopefully these two are here for the long term." The Black Cats have spent £5.5million on the pair, who have both signed four-year deals. Loovens " Sunderland AFC have completed the signing of experienced defender Glenn Loovens. The Dutchman has signed on a free transfer after leaving Sheffield Wednesday following the end of the 2017-18 season, signing a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light."
Stewart Donald's confirmed that Reece James and Dylan McGeouch have taken up their one-year contract options. This is great news that we've managed to hang on to McGeough. JR needs to play him
James is a decent enough lb. can manage this league but I hope he’s backup for Hume personally McGeouch was starting to find his feet when he got injured. Glad he’s staying on
I think he's really poor, would have let him go personally. Not overly fussed with McGeouch either, couldn't even make the bench in the Playoff Final and he was fully fit.
Just think James is a decent enough squad player and cheap - good enough to fill in occasionally when needed. McGeouch divides people - Not playing the PLay Offs is a strange one as I think we'd have won the game if he'd been on the bench - only because our tactics were working perfectly until they took power out and McGeouch would've been a perfect replacement. He's one who I've watched play really poorly at the start of the season but improve massively after coming back from injury. Also wasn't it in the players hands the extension? Their contracts included an option to extend by a year? Not entirely sure as I'm certainly no football contract expert
