Then there's the money coming in for Godfrey and Aarons...maybe we will eventually be able to afford Ross McCormack after all!
Good for JM, showing that sort of loyalty. Perhaps the time will come when we need the money more than we do now.
In other news, both Adam Idah and Simon Power started in ROI's U21 0-0 draw with Mexico as they lead their group on goal difference. https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/city-youngsters-in-toulon-tournament-action-1-6093136
SW on where we go from here: "Having already talked about the importance of maintaining the unity on and off the pitch which helped drive City to promotion, Webber believes standards at the club will need to step up to another level to become established in the top flight: "We've got to go and create the next bit of history and that's whether you're working in the ticket office, a first team player, a physio or whatever, it's about what's next and what have we got to do next to raise our standards, our behaviours? We're about to pretty much walk into a new facility (at Colney) as the academy, and also the first team, and as I keep saying to the heads of department, that comes with a sense of responsibility. There's no excuse now, we can't say the players aren't fit enough because the gym isn't good enough. We've probably got the best gym in the Premier League now, until someone builds a bigger one. So it's about not forgetting what we've done, and we should always reflect on that - during the hard times next season we should look back and remember that this is part of the journey that we have got to go through. But it's about looking forward and trying to be even better than what we've done before, because if we only do as well as what we've done, that won't be good enough, so we all have to stretch ourselves even more and develop that even further." This guy would have been useful in planning for D-Day! https://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/improvements-crucial-for-canaries-in-premier-league-1-6092800
Yes Rick, SW certainly is the real deal and along with DF, I can see a few teams who normally expect to be in the top 10 of the PL leaving CR with 'bloodied noses!!' I', not saying we'll actually beat any of them, but on the other hand I'm hoping we don't suffer too many humiliating defeats!!!
What's amazing is that Stuart Webber's comments actually cause a stir, as though they are in some way extraordinary! Anybody who runs a successful business knows that resting on your laurels is the surest route to failure. If a company is doing something that puts it ahead of the competition, it simply prompts others to find ways of getting ahead of it. Standing still is going backwards.
IMO, it's more the fact that SW MAKES comments following on from Moxey's almost total silence. Totally agree with the remainder of your post!!
That's true up to a point, Robbie, but SW communicates that vision to everybody at the club. McNally had some elements of that, but under him the club was split up amoung different specialities. Now there's a unified structure to deliver that vision. That means generating income every way we can, but also watching the bottom line to insure that the growth and development is sustainable into the future. No big investment in expensive players, but rather finding affordable players who fit the way we play. That way, occasional misfits don't cost us a fortune as they have done in the past. We have a good team which can be made better by adding the right players in the right positions at a reasonable outlay - thus the £20m budget which, used rightly, will have us ready for the PL when the season starts.
To be honest, I'll be happier when they get Vrancic and Leitner on longer term deals. Still good news, granted, but I don't feel he's as pivotal as the two I mentioned.
Wasn't meant as a criticism of SW Rick, just a comment on the reaction to it. Bit like the media reaction to Bielsa's famous press conference when the reality was that pretty much every manager of every top tier club in the world prepares for matches in much the same way!
Leitner still has 3 years left on his contract but Vrancic only has one year left on his. At 30, his situation is a bit tricky, given that he'll be 31 when his current contract expires. Does the club offer him a one year extension and risk offending him or offer two more years, meaning he'll be 33 by the time it expires. Pukki is another tricky one as he has two years left on his contract and will be 31 when it expires. The full contract situation for all of the players is laid out by MB here: https://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/canaries-player-contracts-guide-june-2019-1-6095160
And when we make it into the Europa league next year we're bound to face Sheriff Tiraspol at some stage.
