Wasn’t sure where to post this, so here it in the boozer thread as its general discussion stuff.

The weekend was at best disappointing, I think we are all agreed on that.

I however would like to add some statistical perspective to where we are compared to where we have been.

Don’t misunderstand me, I am not giving us a pat on the back and saying we shouldn’t achieve more, but we have to acknowledge that this is a project and a journey. More progress is needed and we need to start winning things sooner rather than later and we need to make the right additions in this window to ensure that the slight plateauing doesn’t become a dip.

Before Poch arrived we had played in Europes top competition twice reaching the semis in 62 and the quarters in 2011, in 5 seasons under Poch we have qualified 4 times and now reached a final.

In the league I am going to concentrate on the premier league era as the data is easily available.

Our average league finish in the premier league before Poch arrived, even taking into account the improvement under MJ, and Harry was 9th, under Poch its 3rd.

Prior to Poch arriving we had been in the top 4 at the end of a premier league match week 78 times which equates to 10% of the time which I thought was surprisingly high, though the 2011/12 season was responsible for a third of those weeks! Since Poch arrived we have been top 4 at the end of 135 match weeks that is 80% of the time.

That’s a staggering improvement, but if we don’t now make another step up and make greater improvements then the last 5 years works could yet be wasted.

But these are good times to be a Spurs fan, now really is the time for Daniel to prove that ‘To Dare is To Do’

 

Mrs B and I went for a long walk Sunday afternoon. Up the road were a young family, they were definitely of Eastern European origin. The young lad was about 6 or 7 and wearing a Spurs shirt. A spurs shirt, in deepest Surrey/South London where most things are Chelsea. During the week I saw another young family buying Spurs shirts in Sports Direct in Sutton. Five years ago, you couldn't find a shirt down here, let alone anyone to buy one.

You're either moving forwards or moving backwards. The crowds on Saturday were huge. Lots of families with young kids. The club is progressing. Tie ins with Saracens and NFL will only add to that...if we add to what we've got and go again. There's a chance to go further, right now.

If Chelsea lose Hazard and are staring down the barrel of a transfer ban, Arsenal are having money problems and need major surgery and United still in turmoil, it means we should be looking upwards. Barcelona, Real, Bayern and Juve have ageing teams needing rebuilds. We should be looking at going for the CL again with confidence.

Now is the time....'To Dare Is To Do'.

 

Terrible news: now that Los Ladrones do Madrid have signed Luka Jovic, it means we'll have to gamely soldier on without selling Harry Kane this summer...

 

Not forgetting the South Asian market with Sonny, if only we could get our hands on a 30 goal and 20 assists a year Chinese fella who can take free kicks and corners without hitting the 1st man

 

i agree with you...my negativity stems from the fact that,right now, we are at that stage where something has to be done...at a degree that i believe is beyond the ambitions of ENIC...so that leaves me with an air of pessimism for the summer ahead.

Considering how Michael Owen swears blind that it was a penalty on Saturday, how long before a pundit snaps and lays in to somebody being that blind due to their obvious bias?

 

I am very disappointed with the depth of BBC coverage of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

They have made this an emotion-fest, but missed the context of it all. People don't know history any more, I don't know if the BBC assume they do, or simply don't care. One thing the BBC don't realise is if people know what this was all for, what was going on in the world and what the consequences were, it actually makes the big "sacrifice" angle they've taken more poignant.

The differences between the 70th anniversary coverage and the 75th could not be greater. Back then you had historians explaining what was going on, and they even commissioned a rather good recreation / documentary, which for whatever reason is not being shown again. Heck, they're not even showing "The Longest Day" (but they are showing "Dunkirk" for some reason).

I'm not saying they shouldn't be giving all that time to veterans and families, just that they needed to do far more. And for the record my father landed on D-Day, and I absolutely know that he would not have wanted anyone remembering the event to concentrate on the personal contribution he made, or the sacrifice he could have made, he would want people to know why he was there and what the outcome was.

 

What was the former name of the Bill Nick pub,please? Looks a bit like the old Spurs pub in Grt Cam Rd. It's been a while!!!!!....and the address please. I may send them some of my old Spurs rubbish!!!!
