Great programme....and you must understand it better than the rest of us who sit through the first show of each series going Who? What? Or is that just me?
It’s good for practicing the acronyms ..... there’s a UCO in an OCG. He’s calling an ARU ATT from AC15, but says the TFU at the OPP are A-OK ...... Confused the hell out of me for quite a while!
If a TV drama starts spouting acronyms to illustrate a sense of professionalism and eliteness I immediately switch off. Loathe jargon. It smacks of secrecy.
It is. Along with aviation and manned space travel the nuclear nerds basically invented safety. So when a massive tsunami hits one in a really awkward place, no one nearby even gets slightly warm. Meanwhile people putting solar panels on roofs fall off and die all the time. The atmosphere around Chernobyl is far safer than up the road in Kiev because there's no cars.
Anyone know anything about this? It's in a garden just outside Marchwood, and it's huge. Spotted it while nebbing round Google Earth. It's here: https://goo.gl/maps/ypkKydEZsoMyjDEb9 Vin
Had those two scientists not been involved, 70% of Europe would be inhabitable. Those plants scare the bejesus out of me. And not for our sake, but for natures.
For anyone interested, here's a terrific article about the people given the job of forecasting the D-Day weather 75 years ago. https://blog.usejournal.com/the-wea...b5cad3f7e?sk=c7f5ab95b53b2761e5c8d4f460aa82a3 Vin
Either our new winger will be running rings around our opponents, or he’s sh1te and will just go round in circles!
A few interesting stats coming out today. Ford are to close their Brigend, Wales engine manufacturing plant. They cite 'changing customer demand and cost disadvantages'. Well we know what that means. 1] People want far fewer FF cars, and 2] they'll cost too much to build in the UK if Brexit becomes a reality. And don't make the mistake that the latter isn't true. Manufacturing has been on a major downward slide since the reality on various car boards has kicked in that Brexit might happen and they'd better prepare for it - which means moving out. BTW, they warned us! But in the case of a FF engine plant, in a declining market, there was nowhere else to go but closure by September 2020 at the latest. I hope Ford considers turning the place into an electric motor manufacturing plant. But electric motors are so sodding simple, compared to ICEs that I doubt whether such a big plant and workforce would be needed. Maybe batteries too? This is the sad part of choosing the wrong ideology, plus the disruption that new technology can bring. The UK could be about to choose the former at exactly the worst time [there's no good time for that, mind you] as the latter comes along. And new technology, if implemented the right way, is almost always better. But you have to prepare for it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-48533790
And Chancellor Philip Hammond says the change to Carbon Zero by 2050 could cost the UK as much as £1 Trillion. This is a politician who is putting the worst case scenario forward, because he's iffy about the whole thing anyway. Tell you what Mr Hammond. I guarantee it will cost more if you delay. And 2050 is so incredibly underwhelming a target. I doubt he factors in the cost by delaying or moving too slowly. Make the proper commitment, move quickly, and you'll probably find it costs a lot less. Plus we might have a substantial new industry, say in solar cell manufacturing, for example. Or heat pumps, for another. But being a conservative politician in the UK, we'll dilly-dally until the costs really rocket. That's typical of this country. Some people say we'll do better on our own outside the EU. I see almost zero evidence of that. Anyway, here's the article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-48540004
BTW, I came across a very nice poster sized picture explaining the ice coverage of the Arctic, and its decline. Anyone, who doesn't have a reasonably clear idea of how the whole mechanism of Arctic ice works within the climate system ought to copy this picture to their device just to have a good perusal. It's very clear, even I would suggest, to anyone without the merest clue of how Earth systems work. If you don't have a much better idea, after looking at it, by all means give me a shout and I'll see if I can answer any question.
Just an update video for Fully Charged LIVE which starts tomorrow at Silverstone and covers the weekend. Test drives, advice and talks from the stages, along with loads of EVs and Clean Power tech appearing. Sadly, I can't go because I'm stuck here for the weekend. That's twice I'm going to miss it. Next year I'm going for definite:
