I expected more from Eriksen on Saturday as the Brains in our team If he's not the problem then Alli is because isn't one supposed to be finding pockets of space whilst the other feeds the space? It's not happening There is certainly an issue with the influence of at least one of our main players.
I was expecting more from our whole team. There isn’t an issue with the main players though, there’s an issue with quality in the side in particular areas. When Bale was here was he the reason we lost big games and never consistently got top four? Likewise Modric or van der Vaart? No. We lost games because we lacked the quality elsewhere on the pitch to match the quality they brought to the side. Is it a coincidence that since Bale and Modric left, Walker too, that they’ve raked in the trophies at their new clubs? The reason being is they’re in better teams with stronger squads who match their level of quality. It’s why Spurs need to improve the weak areas, not replace or try to strengthen the all ready strong ones.
Given Eriksen has said he is off, this conversation is now moot. Fact is we will need someone new in his position (or rethink our style).
Looks like its "farvel " from Christian, he has given us a solid 6 years service with more ups than downs from him , let's get this done quickly Mr Levy money from his sale and the wages going into the pot if llorente goes should see us be able to recruit a quality CM who has the ability to get a free kick or corner beyond the wall or 1st man , hopefully an interesting close season where the club matches Pochettino's ambitions and expectations. COYS
We knew that we needed some reinforcements regardless of whether Eriksen or Alderwiereld left us this summer. It seems Eriksen will be doing exactly that, so it now begs the question of how many players we’re gonna need to get over the line in this window. Making signings hasn’t ever been something we’ve concluded quickly. Not to mention that a lot of our business has traditionally been conducted towards the end of transfer windows. In addition, we could be making up for our inactivity over the last year, we could face losing players like Toby (and have to find a replacement), and we’ve got to shift dead wood. Levy has really got his work cut out here. There’s literally no way we can leave things as late as we have in the past. Huge transfer window, this.
It's not exactly what he's said. It's a come and get me to Madrid, pretty much. If they don't go in for him and none of the obvious others do either, then I doubt he'll want to leave.
Yeah, I definitely felt Trippier had a good season and £45mill felt like a lot more money then than it does now Still, we got Sanchez and Foyth for the same money and we didn't waste too much on Aurier. Looks like Eriksen's making sure certain clubs know he wants to leave. Lamela's better anyway
Gigi Buffon to leave PSG. Could they be interested in a World Cup winning French captain? I've seen suggestions that there could be departures that we wouldn't expect. Could it be Hugo?
Bloody hope not! Can't see us getting anyone better and certainly not for the money we'd get for him. That said, I didn't like his comments talking us down the other day. He can think what he likes but at the end of the day, he's the captain and shouldn't be placing limits on what we can achieve.
Very possible, there isn’t really another keeper out there right now that I think would appeal to PSG - unless they go for de Gea? Biggest club in France wanting the French captain? It kind of makes sense.
I wouldn't mind Hugo leaving. After RB and CM, that would be my next area of scrutiny. In light of the way modern GKs play, we can do much better than him, especially as captain.
4:30 pm on 8th August. I can already hear Jim White saying "Chris Wood has left his medical at St James' Park and is heading with his agent down to North London to complete a deal with Spurs. Extraordinary stuff, it really is".
Great news, I can keep banging my ‘sell Hugo to PSG and promote Gazza’ drum all summer. Lucky you guys!!!
Except he hasn't said he's off, as here's the comment in question (c/o The Standard) "I feel that I am a place in my career where I might want to try something new. I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened in Tottenham, nor will it be negative. But I have also said that I would like to try something new. I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That's the plan. In football you do not know when a clarification comes. It can happen anytime. Everyone wants it best if it happens as soon as possible, but in football takes things time. It depends on Daniel Levy. And another club has to come in. Or I have to sit down at the table and negotiate a new contract. You can't set a date yourself. There are not many points that Tottenham cannot meet. If I have to go, then hopefully it will be a step up. Los Ladrones do Madrid is a step up. But it requires Los Ladrones to call Tottenham and say they want me. And they have not done so yet, as far as I know. It is hard. It depends on the possibilities. If nothing pops up that is more exciting, why not stay in Tottenham? If I then sign a new contract, depends on the conditions." While that's a long, looooong way from him saying that he's staying it's also not him saying that he's leaving - although that's probably worse, given he's making very public overtures to Los Ladrones that's not only going to piss off the fans when they see him say that he'd begrudgingly sign a new contract if the offer doesn't come, but I'm pretty sure that Poch has added several cans of Special Brew to Jesus Perez's shopping list in preparation for the next time Eriksen is on our training pitch One thing does need to be pointed out: the Standard's also reporting talks between Chelsea and Los Ladrones have broken down...although basically everyone else is saying a deal's been agreed, so don't panic just yet
On the topic on those who'd be willing to sell Hugo (I'd possibly consider it too, though the offer would have to be too good to refuse), who in this side would you deem are untouchable, in that if someone offered say £150m+ you'd still put the phone down and block their number? For me there's four: Vertonghen - despite his age and the fact he too only has a year left, he's still - as CK once said - a rolls royce of a defender. Sanchez - he's the future, a new breed of CB that has the potential to be one of the very best. Son - not only a key player for us now but commercially he must be a goldmine for our Asian market. Kane - best striker on the planet for me, just needs to be managed better and given enough rest so that he doesn't keep picking up injuries. Toby and Eriksen would've also made that list but their contract situations means we don't have too much power. There are others who'd need to have ridiculous offers made for but nonetheless, I'd say those guys are just a complete no-no when it comes to selling.
Hugo is a tricky one, I would sell if the price is right and if we are convinced we can get a keeper who is as good and hopefully better than he is and that is not going to be easy. I like Gazza but I am not convinced that he is good enough to be first choice, and I am sure who we could get who would be a step up. A few who might be available and considered might include, Navas, Cillesen, Butland, and Trapp, and I don't see any of them as an improvement on what we have.
Case in point about replacing Hugo, we keep being linked with Andre Onana with suggestion that he'd be the keeper to take us forward...although I haven't seen a single mention of him since the CL semis, which I'm sure has nothing to do with him looking like anything but an elite keeper and more likely someone who thinks he is one and is pissing off the Ajax hierarchy with his believing he should be paid like one
