A story I heard was a mate of mine used to live and work in the States, he had a construction company. Trump had stiffed a bloke he knew who had done loads of building work for Trump..Trump would not pay him for WIP, Trump wanted my friend to finish the work off.. there was a big row with Trump trying his bluster etc but soon backed off when George threatened to thump him.
I remember the morning of the result- the stock market dropped from 6300 to 5700 . Facebook and social media was full of remainers “ told you so , economy is destroyed, we’re doomed” Not one has acknowledged that it recovered in 2 days , continued to rise through 7000 and record levels of 7600/7700.
Trump has said that in a US UK trade deal, everything is in the table including the NHS, selling of us cheaper but lower quality goods (including food like chlorine washed chicken) to the UK.... He also claimed there were only hundreds of anti trump protesters (there were 75 thousand) and thousands of pro trump supporters.
Regarding trump, I think alot more people like the fact he is here or dont give a **** that he's here than those who are opposed to him being here. Boils my piss when people holding placards with 'nobody wants you here.' I'm not his biggest fan, sooner somebody else was Prez. But he'll only be Prez for another 6 years (at the most) or something. He was voted in, so those who hate him should only just grit their teeth and bear it x
Outside of direct personal experience, it beats me how anybody can know for certain, what is, and what is not true these days.
Isn't Brexit great? Claims of £350m per week to the NHS, and it turns out it will be sold off and health care privatised. Sure will be fun we're out of the EU and any time a member of a poor family requires an operation it will literally bankrupt them. The working class voting for Brexit was like turkeys voting for Christmas imo.
I disagree. I wasn't there but fair play to those who were. The planet is literally dying, and a climate change denier is the president of the USA. People need to make their voices heard to enable change. Most top scientists agree that, on the current trajectory, the world will be irreparably damaged within 30 years, effectively dooming humanity to extinction or forcing us to flee to a different planet. If this ****ing idiot is left in charge for 6 more years, he may even speed that process along. Even if he doesn't worsen the situation, he sure as hell won't improve it. And 6 years is 1/5th of our total deadline to do something about it. Humanity as we know it could come to an end within 100 years and it's because people stand by and do nothing whilst morons like this run one of the most powerful countries in the world.
then why don't they protest to the worlds biggest polluters China Russia India, because they won't listen,
Not to mention all the jobs lost due to the UK not being in the EU. Already, Honda, Toyota and Ford announce massive job losses (Almost more certainly to come) and yet its people from these workplaces who voted to leave. I seriously cannot understand that thinking.
China is one of the biggest investors in renewable energy. 38% of their electricity comes from renewable sources. They're investing more in renewable than any other power source. Besides which, if USA doesn't sets an example it's much harder to convince other countries to do so. People expect more from the so called leaders of the free world
Indirectly I think one of the biggest threats is Corbyn. Most of the folks I know are socialists though and through and dyed in the wool labour voters but they all mistrust and dilike Corbyn and most will not vote labour as long as he's in charge of the party. If it wasn't for him Labour would landslide an election imho
I think it would depend what Labour's stance on Brexit was. As a Socialist party Labour should be pro-internationalism and therefore opposed to Brexit. But many of those people who claim to be socialists also voted leave in the referendum. The country is now split along lines that it never really had to consider before.
I don't think it's quite that simple. A lot of socialist thinking says the EU is just a source of cheap East European labour for big Western businesses, which is why a lot of production has headed East. We can't support UK businesses and jobs because of EU state aid rules. Honda left because they no longer need an EU-site of production because the EU-Japan trade deal has removed tariffs from Japanese-produced cars, so they're simply moving all EU production back to Japan. We have to be flexible in the way we respond to international challenges and that, for me, means doing our own thing outside the EU.
My comment was more about the irony of people who think they're socialists voting for a nationalist agenda, rather than the way that the EU works.
No, I'm not actually. I'm referencing the well observed phenomenon that there is a palpable shift to the right (or towards nationalism) in people's leanings for a period of approximately 10 years after a period of economic problems. And noting that even people who claim to be firmly on the left are not immune to that.
