If we sell Jackson and / or Harrison then we need to sign three or four and that is neither realistic nor desirable.
Depends on the system, we may continue to play one striker up front, in which case we won't need to bring an influx of new strikers in. Typically, I'm of the opinion that you should have four good strikers in your first-team squad. If we sign Norwood and one other striker, we will most likely retain Sears (although he's out of the first few months) and then one of Harrison and Jackson, so I think we can easily afford to offload one of them. I don't think selling Harrison to Portsmouth, a promotion rival, is a particularly good idea. As you say, we've got a couple of promising strikers coming through, so they should be able to cover for Sears at the start of the season, particularly when the cup games start coming thick and fast.
If we continue to play one up then we can forget all about promotion. We need a change of tack and Norwood actually is not a bad start.
0n a separate note, anyone know if there is a sell on clause in the Mings transfer? Seeing as villa wanna sign him
Sorry for being negative guys, but all this talk about promotion and promotion candidates I feel is very premature and dare I say a touch arrogant to believe that we will be in contention There are a lot of hard teams to beat in this division and I cant see by what criteria that we are 'one of the promotion favourites' its a sure bet that if we play like we did last season then nothing will change, and all this talk about relying on the kids as if they are the answer to all our prayers is wishful thinking IMO, and who`s to say that they are up to standard. Surely if they were the golden future they would have played a greater part in last seasons fixtures I have a nasty feeling in the pit of my stomach that another disaster awaits us Hope to god I`m wrong but-------
What would you regard as a disaster? Finishing 7th? I think if Evans is at all serious about his aspirations for your club the investment of a few million would give Lambert a decent chance of the play offs at least.
We are talking about what we need to do to get promoted but nobody is saying it will happen. If we are not in the mix there should be a revolt.
I couldn't agree more Y 26, there seems to be a foregone conclusion in some fans I talk to that we've only got to turn up to win and promotion is a certainty, and while I wish that were true there is a rude awakening waiting for some of our players. A rough, tough player like Norwood should be in his element but for some of the younger players the bad pitches, and physical opposition will be challenging to say the least, we should soon know who is up to for the battle.
I would say there is little chance of top two because I expect Sunderland and Pompey to be above 85 points and Rotherham, Posh and Doncaster to be pushing for an auto place and Lincoln, Blackpool and Burton to be play off contenders too, but something is very badly wrong if we can't get to the 70 point mark. Make no mistake, I am certainly not taking it for granted the way the club is run and in such a competitive league with clubs that will be better prepared than us.
They would have bounced back a lot sooner if it wasn’t for the Ched Evans thing. Teams do tend to bounce back within a season or two but I am worried that because of our owner we are going to be an exception.
On an unrelated note, how many players can you name in Ipswich Town starting elevens 1996 to 2016/17 - https://www.sporcle.com/games/Freddie/XIIpswich I got 78%
https://www.ipswichstar.co.uk/sport...uez-gorrin-linked-with-ipswich-town-1-6085442 Replacement for Skuse?
Seeing as he never scored a goal for Motherwell, then yes, could be a very suitable replacement for Skuse
On the goalkeeper front: Adam Przybek is at Portman Road today https://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/36135/released-west-brom-keeper-at-town-to-complete-move and we might swoop for Remi Matthews from Bolton https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town-interest-in-bolton-goalkeeper-remi-matthews-1-6086711 I don't understand the logic behind having three 'keepers plus Harry Wright.
I think having three keepers in addition to Wright is a very sensible move. The two experienced keepers will be 1 & 2, with the youngster as U23. This then gives us the chance to send Wright out on loan, who will get much needed first team experience in a lower league, rather than playing dud U23 games
Harry Wright is 20 now and we have all these cup games to play. How much lower than League 1 do we want him to go? Sunday League?
U23 games are not competitive games, and playing in the National league is much more sensible. He needs to be playing week in week out against big, strong players, not a bunch of kids. How many cup games is he going to play... 3, 4, 5? The goalkeeping position is a precarious one, you need a little experience at least. He needs to toughen up, imho.
His father, Jo Hart, Jordan Pickford and many others didn’t need much experience or bulking up to be playing at a higher level / or even International level. If we do go out of all the cups at an early stage then send him out in January. Missed opportunity. He is not going to learn anything at National League level, commanding amateur and semi pro defenders.
