For me, they impressed most in the following order: 1. SWP 2. Young 3. Traore 4. Ferdinand 5. Barton I thought that Barton played reasonably well and I guess we can look forward to more substantial performances ahead.
1. Young 2. SWP 3. Traore 4. Barton 5. Ferdinand Based on last night, after the next game you might turn that list uppside down for all i know. Too early to pass judgement and i think in Joey Bartons case it was just a matter of getting this match out of the way, believe we'll see a much improved and more commanding captian against Wolves.
This statement is the best one as they all were equally good. I was surprised Anton was so good, I did have faith but his header ration was awesome.
1. SWP - looked very lively, just shaded to MOTM by Faurlin (in my humble opinion) 2. Young - had a great game, fought to get the ball back and bombed on with some great crosses 3. Traore - good game, not as dodgy as the 8-2 drubbing he took part in would have suggested 4. Ferdinand - solid but didn't have much to do 5. Barton - I got the feeling he wasn't giving 100%, maybe because it was against the club he only left a few weeks ago. Being captain may also have curbed his enthusiasm too. Paddy Kenny - top class save early on against Best, quality. Danny Gabidon - gave too much away, very sloppy Shaun Derry - worked hard but his lack of pace is starting to show in the Prem Jay Bothroyd - missed a hatful of chances but kept working hard Ali Faurlin - MOTM, best game he has had in ages Adel Taarabt - back on form, he had a good game too Matt Connoly - still a bit of a lightweight, gave too much away Jason Puncheon & DJ Campbell - didn't have long enough to make any impression
Where's my shopping list? "Paddy Kenny - top class save early on against Best, quality" It was his poor kick that created that chance but what a save
All 5 new guys played well, ranging from SWP electric performance to Luke Youngs solid performance. Excellent all round job, all that was missing was a goal or two..., Roll on saturday.
Far better to see how old an new compared. Ratings out of 10. Kenny: 8 Young: 8 Ferdinand: 7 Gabbidon: 6 Traore: 8 Derry: 8 Barton: 8 Faurlin: 9 Taarabt: 9 Wright-Phillips: 10 Bothroyd: 6
Jude - by the way did anyone else see Sparky morph into a real cat and jump in the Paddock or was the Guinness doing it´s job?
Kenny: 7 Young: 7 Ferdinand: 8 Gabbidon: 6 Traore: 7 Derry: 7 Barton: 7 Faurlin: 9 Taarabt: 8 Wright-Phillips: 8 Bothroyd: 7
Kenny - 7 Young - 8 Ferdinand - 7 Gabbidon - 6 Traore - 7 Derry - 8 Barton - 7 Faurlin - 9 SWP - 8 Bothroyd - 6 Taarabt - 8 I don't see any reason to change the starting line-up for the Wolves game, more match-time together will have this unit purring...
Kenny: 7 Young: 8 Ferdinand: 6 Gabbidon: 5 Traore: 7 Derry: 7 Barton: 6 Faurlin: 8 Taarabt: 8 Wright-Phillips: 8 Bothroyd: 7 What a feeling to have quality full backs again, shame Traore had to come of which slightly hindered us in the second half. We played 0-0 guys, no players warrants 9's or 10's.
Technically you are right of course but please give us some latitude for expressing our joy at seeing a fully competitive PL side at LR. I'm pretty sure that if you were at the game last night you would also have added on a few points in response to the sheer exhuberance of the crowd witnesssing the best football we have seen in a generation. So, Wright-Phillips still gets a 10 from me. While I'm at it I think I will give anyother one to Faurlin as well!
Faurlin's job is breaking up play and distributing the ball, he did it superbly last night. My m-o-m and a deserved 9.
