I firmly believe Grigg will be an asset next season.

He is an off the shoulder player which should in theory suit usto a degree I’m assuming the injury has affected his mobility. Assuming or hoping, either way.

He's looked like he can do it in brief glimpses. Maybe the problem is that when he's brought on to replace Wyke, we're still trying to play the same game rather than playing a game more suited to him. On Sunday I remember he ended chasing a couple of high balls that went over his head. That's not what he needs.

He has looked just as ineffective when he has started games though so just what does suit him I wonder. He looks disinterested to me, hope I am wrong, but I for one would not be worried if he is traded in for a striker, who can give us a goal or two.

I wouldn't be too fussed if he went either. If he stays it'll be interesting to see what happens. He's closer to Maja than Wyke.

I hope I won't be lynched by stating the obvious; but aren't we forgetting that you guys will be on a reduced financial muscle after the parachute has dried up?

Yes, which is why we've been saying that we need to invest in the team heavily in the forthcoming window.

Honestly; well, banter is banter: but I wish you guys would go up. Most of you (based on comments here) don't seem to realize the predicament

You'll have to get in touch with our owners because they seem to think we'll be fine.

Do try to keep up at the back. The price of Short going and him writing off the debt was that he would get the parachute payments. So all the parachute money so far has ended up in Short's pocket, it's neither here or there when it dries up as Short got it all anyway.

This has all been in the public domain for at least a year, as you're so interested in us I thought you would have at least a modicum of knowledge about our financial situation.

I read that FTM somewhere but the financial clout does't disappear with the parachute payments though. As I understand it you were left debt free with that arrangement. So no huge payments to sort out interest on loans and the like and the income you get now is the money you can use. You get gates way in excess of the rest of the league and therefore your ability to sign players on a wage that others can't is there for all to see. You have got rid of your excessive wages for league one so are pretty much free to buy in much better players than the vast majority of the league.

I said on your board early into last season that you have to accept where you are now and that league one isn't a gimme. Understandably a lot of your followers thought you should piss league one and promotion was almost a forgone conclusion. I think as the season went on you did realise it wasn't like that and you would have to work for your rewards. I now think your Manager at least has learned a lot from this season and will not be making the same mistake next time. You will be promoted next season is my bet and probably as champions. This season wasn't the failure. Next season will be if you repeat it. I say this with no malice and as an honest opinion from an outside perspective.

I know this forum a lot better than you and virtually nobody on here said that. If you mean on Twitter etc then fair enough, I wouldn't know.

Maybe a slight overstatement Nacho but a fair few comments were pointing that way early on. The feeling seemed to be that after seasons of disappointment this was going to be it and the ship was going to turn around. Comments like many clubs will think it's their cup final playing you and at the Stadium of Light. I don't do Twitter so wouldn't know who was saying what on there. Anyway I didn't post to cause an argument just saying it as I saw it and see it now.

At best it was cautious optimism, at worst we thought we'd do well to avoid another relegation. I think you've got some kind of agenda and it's clouded your view of how it actually was.

I do think it's true that a lot of teams have raised their games against us. It's just common sense really, it happens in every league when the team in question has a bigger stadium and crowd than the norm.

Apparently, if I understood properly, we still have 10m of parachute payments "left over" . Something around the initial deal was 39.6m for the club, but it was reworked 3 months later due to unforseen costs, so short agreed to a lower price plus Donald not needing as much as he thought to cover running costs. I don't think the 10m is cash sitting in the clubs account, but the group who own the club owe it to the club and are paying it back in as and when it's needed.

Might have got some of that wrong though.

I don't have any agenda Nacho I promise you and am just giving an honest opinion on how things come across. The thought that average players are even capable of "raising their game" just because they are playing in a larger stadium is a myth in my view. How come a load of them crack when they play in the biggest one at Wembley? Most finals are a load of old bollox to watch but if you allow your theory they should all be the most scintillating ever played. Lesser players sometimes fluke a result perhaps but are never great. Trust me I've watched my lot all season and they hardly ever improved no matter who they were playing.

Anyway, I still think you will crack it next season even if it isn't a forgone conclusion and just an opinion.
