I think we'll be prepared to play the long game with Rhodes. He doesn't need a full pre-season to get to know the squad and style, and bar injury to Pukki he won't get more than 10 mins a game anyway. Srbeny can do that, or whoever else we sign.

The longer the summer goes on, the more Wednesday realise he has no other suitors, the lower the price gets. If he ends up being an 11th hour deadline day signing, it doesn't matter. We're the club who hold the cards here, any deal will be on our terms.

I think that's about right, except that we'll also start looking at other strikers, particularly young ones on loan, especially if they can play on the wing as well. If Rhodes does work out eventually then well and good, but I think we'll have sorted the striker situation before the season starts.

As someone else commented - Idah HASN'T gone on loan, so COULD he be being considered as part of the first team squad. OBVIOUSLY, he's umpteen years under 21 and 'home grown' :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Pre-season is going to be VERY interesting.

As much as I like Rhodes, I dont think he is Prem quality and wouldn't go near £7m!!

As JM says, i am hoping Idah gets a shout soon and that we go for someone with a little more youth, energy and ability than Rhodes, to CHALLENGE Pukki rather than just back him up.

Both Idah and Spyrou could be involved in the pre-season. Spyrou is nearly two years older and has played on the wing and as a striker. He's also had a loan at Wrexham. I can't see either as our number two striker in the PL, but then I never saw Lewis or Aarons coming straight into the starting line-up either. Idah has also had international experience with ROI U21s.

Well, attempting to apply a transfer fee of £7m for a guy with one year
left on his contract seems a rather bizarre way of going about it?
Webber has already stated to the media that we won't be held to ransom for any player
and his list of superb acquisitions so far prove that's not just fighting talk but reality.
Rhodes is no reason to do a U-turn on that policy.
Due to Sheff Weds stupid demands, I hope we manage to find a(nother) gem from elsewhere
and leave them licking their wounds - and pumping money into JR's bank account for another year.
Yes, Brucie, that's how it felt for us over Naismith. <grr>

Very true, Cromer, but I still think that there's a good chance we'll get Rhodes at the price we're willing to pay. SW isn't affected by posturing. Cold hard bargaining is his forte.

Perhaps you should be careful talking about SW when he is dealing with Sheffield Wednesday <laugh>

sometimes these european websites include wage costs for the player

so for example say we offered Diagne a four-year contract at £35kpw (I.e. roughly €2m per year) would mean you’d deduct about €8m from the reported fee

which means we would be signing him for around €9m or £8m, that doesn’t sound beyond the realms of possibility for a quality striker

I actually think including wages is a more sensible way of reporting it as it shows how some clubs pay massive wages

So do I, but his wiki page has been changed, which admittedly is not always true, to say he is now a Canary. Could the £20m budget mentioned by SW have been a smokescreen telling selling clubs not to state stupid prices to us whilst we quietly went about our business. His stats are remarkable, and he has been playing at a very good level lately.

The Mbaye Diagne rumor looks like a rehash from several weeks ago. I don't believe it either.:emoticon-0145-shake

I would say all the rumours are bollocks especially anything over £5m .Maybe the Croation keeper but i reckon we will stick with Krul and get a decent loan in Saints are collecting them perhaps someone like Forster on loan . Also anything with a slideshow is always horse **** click bait. As others already said , keep Bruce sweating and when nobody else is interested then offer them a £3m for Rhodes , him being the best paid player may piss off the better players
