cartmel,5 00: ALLBARNONE hasnt been seen since winning this contest 12 months ago,and is still 7 lbr higher, but,on the plus side,he has a good record here, and may have been targeted again for this race.also does he seem very versatile regarding trip and ground,so a big run very possible,at least e w..
Irish 2000G was a fast time. Pretty rare these days, especially in England. Curragh times were slow otherwise but by not as slow as they are in England.
My each way pick in the 2.50 Haydock squeezed a place at 12/1 but the Irish Guineas was up in the air with a few disappointments. Phoenix Of Spain did not have a lot to find with Magna Grecia but Too Darn Hot had plenty in hand of him on collateral form. With the Hills colt conceding fitness I didn't fancy him but he pumped them really. Magna Grecia was hugely disappointing, he hasn't run to his form from the Guineas. Too Darn Hot has run another race a fair bit below his peak of 126 today. The Racing Post gave him 113 for today, so that is a second race which suggests he has not trained on from his peak figures last season. Skardu was the one given as running to his mark on 111. Magna Grecia only just held off 101 rated Handicap winner I Am Superman and that horse was beaten when he tried Listed Company. Overall it leaves a mediocre show from the Newmarket Guineas and I wouldn't be so excited about Telecaster beating a Too Darn Hot who has probably receded by a stone from last season. Well done to today's winners. Calyx was a silly price today. His superiority over Hello Youmzain was fairly slight but obviously more was expected from the Gosden colt. On today's effort Calyx would not have been anywhere near lasting out over a mile in the Guineas. He found nil when asked and obviously the big question was if he bounced following a long lay-off and then a comeback win. Hello Youmzain looked the more classic Sprinter in terms of physique and he looked decent on the fastest ground he has ever encountered. Calyx has tons to prove after today. In a contrast of how form can work out or not, Beatboxer put a 31 length defeat in a four runner race behind him today to win a Handicap at 20/1. He ran 49 lbs below his mark on RPR's last time and was only dropped 2 lbs by the Official Handicapper but that was enough to make the difference today. In contrast Elarqam came in with form that was working out beautifully from his last run and he ran out a good winner to enhance the form further. It's a crazy game to fathom at times. For those who feel the form is worth chancing again, the winner of Elarqam's previous race, Zabeel Prince, is running in the Prix D'Ispahan at Longchamp on Sunday. The early betting I saw with one firm had him a narrow favourite at 11/4 from Godolphin's Wild Illusion.
