What a fascinating race the Heron Stakes is 20.10 Sandown is.Of the field of eight 5 are sired by Kingman. ROSEMAN has run in one of the strongest maidens this season. The race was won by Raise you,who won a listed race on Saturday. The second that day was beaten in a three way photo at Windsor and the 3rd,4th 5th and 6th all won next time out. Roger Varian is a past master a placing his horses, surely overpriced at 14/1. This looks to be a good day for the Varian/Atzeni combo who must have a good chance a double at Goodwood, also it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Atzeni could have a 4 timer at that meeting.

Morning, team. Big day today what with, seemingly, half of seven Barrows going up for sale (don’t fret, crew, that doesn’t include The Lieutenant) and then later on it will be time to exercise our prerogatives in one of those little booths.

No bets for me as the above is overwhelming enough. Good luck to those wagering though.

Rather Be got to be a bit of a bargain at £18k! Bought by Highflyer/Events Master Racing - can anyone shed any light who that is?? Lol

£18k is unbelievably cheap if, and I know it is a big if, they can get him back to his best. Still say approaching the 4th last, in the '18 BetVictor, Rather Be was on the cusp of potentially becoming a very, very good horse. That experience may have soured him but hopefully new surroundings will revitalise and rejuvenate the old boy.

Palixandre relatively cheap as well at just £15k. Bit more loot for Rich Richtea. He’s off to Scotland now – Palixandre not Rich Richtea.

But really can’t believe the 11th richest man in Wales got £58k for Jenkins! Wonder if he’s gone up to 10th in the list now?!?

In the Heron Stakes King Of Comedy looks a poor value favourite to me. He made a promising start as a 2YO but was turned over at odds-on next time at Redcar. He faced a simple task in a poor Yarmouth race on his re-appearance but was not impressive and the form has been poor since. I think King Of Comedy is bad value at 2/1.

Walkinthesand is a horse I have done twice this season as the value option against favourites. He ran well both times at decent odds without winning and UAE Jewel fans will be looking for a form boost after Hannon's horse ran behind the Varian colt last time. UAE Jewel is a possible for the French Derby and some collateral form enhancement would be a confidence booster for his connections. Mind you, af ter two failed bets on Walkinthesand I feel it's time to move on.

Dark Vision had some good form last season but was only 3rd on reappearance before having no say in the 2000 Guineas. He's getting a bit exposed and I've had my fill of disappointments with Mark Johnston yet again this season.

As mentioned earlier Roseman ran in a maiden that worked out really well but this is much tougher than the race he won next time when hot favourite. The betting is not speaking for him today and I'll pass, even at 16/1.

I would not rule out Lord North perhaps beating his stablemate King Of Comedy and at 11/1 he may grab a place. Bell Rock could be anything for Andrew Balding but the one who interests me most is Sangarius.

Sangarius won his first two starts but I thought he was hyped up too much with the skinny quotes for the Classics. That seemed borne out when he was quite well beaten in the Dewhurst in 4th but this is an easier level and even with the 3 lbs penalty there is still scope for this particular son of Kingman. Stoute will have been patient with him and hasn't rushed him to a Guineas trial as some people might have expected. This Listed contest is a more feasible starting point and it is possible that Sangarius is up to carrying the 3lbs extra.

In a race where the ratings are tight, and for a couple of the contenders a bit dubiously high in my opinion, it was race to go for an unexposed horse at a decent price. Sangarius at twice the odds of King Of Comedy was my selection.

    8.10 Sandown Sangarius 4/1

No good. Gonna have one more go in the next at Tipperary. Charle Brune went off with a rocket up it's arse yesterday and never got caught, still looked full of running at the end but I wouldn't be confident of a follow up and at a better price I'm Serious has the assistance of the very capable Paul Townend so that's the one I've gone for at 8s. Then that's it for me before I turn into Jumpsfan

Well I got that wrong. Surely they'll need to be having a serious look at that horse after the last two days performances

Danceteria, named after a nightclub in New York where knuckles ruled. Won me a few quid last year and hoping he will do the same this year. He’s out of his comfort zone again tonight but was improving last summer ,cd winner. Only downside and it is major, frank gets the leg up.
The way his form is going wouldn’t be surprised if Mekong, named after a long river, beats the jolly at sanders.

When I saw Sangarius I had my doubts. He was big and burly and looked like he would come on a lot for the race.

I thought he travelled OK in behind but when asked he hung across to the rail and stayed on at one pace. Roseman was backed late, right in to 8/1 from double those odds and he gave a good account.

It was King Of Comedy's race though, as he quickened up smartly to put it to bed. He has obviously come on a ton from his first start because that effort would not have got it done tonight.

Sangarius looked as if there are races to be won with him. The betting market suggested that this was not his night and so it proved. With this under his belt and not conceding 3 lbs he should do well.

Walkinthesand was disappointing. He was well supported but never really looked like it in 5th place. That effort casts doubt on UAE Jewel as a 112 rated colt in the running for the French Derby given that he only beat Walkinthesand by 3/4 of a length and the Hannon colt went down by 5 lengths tonight.

A promising win for King Of Comedy, he was mightily impressive on debut last season and I know a few people who fancied him as a 2000 Guineas longshot over the winter. I'd probably aim him at the Jersey Stakes next if he were my horse.

The first thing to note is that seven of the runners hold the group 1 St James's palace entries over a mile ,the exception being Roseman who holds an Eclipse stakes entry. King of Comedy won the race on merit, however from stall 2 he had the run of the race as stalls 7 and 8 took each other on for over five furlongs, which brings me to the run of Walkinthesand. Does this horse have a trip? I would hesitate to say he doesn't stay a mile, if ridden with more restraint as he and Roseman took each other on. He would be of interest over seven furlongs. As for the winner and the second they beat several horses rated at 106, it will be interesting how BhB rate Rosemans Run I suspect he will be rated around 112.
