I am pleased it was City that did it to us. A lot of other sets of fans would have rubbed it in our faces in and out of the stadium. They didn't because, as you say, they are genuine fans. And most of them are from the area and not bussed in from Cornwall, Milton Keynes, Edinburgh and God knows where else. Their fans are a credit to their club
Given his latest venture on tackling erectile dysfunction he should like us - we couldn't get it up for the cup either
That makes no sense. If we went out to keep the score down, we would lose (still) every time. By way of example, at the Eithad 2 seasons ago, we were 1-0 down after 38 seconds, having not touched the ball. Is that an inferiority complex ? We ended up losing 3-1 scoring right a the end when it was irrelevant. Is that an inferiority complex. But we tried. Yesterday, we tried, to win, then, when it was hopeless, we tried to create chances to score. by putting on attacking substitutes. Did you notice ? Is that an inferiority complex ? A few seasons ago, we were 2-0 up at the Etihad - in the Cup. They brought on Kompany and Aguero (the way we can bring on substitutes of the calibre of.... Success). Result - we lost 4-2. Is that an inferority complex ? Your views give no consideration at all to the level citeh can play at, as if it's all down to their opposition how well they play. They beat Chelsea 6-0. Do Chelsea have an inferiority complex ? Did Chelsea choose to let them win 6-0.? The circumstances of our games since the Semi final and the effort needed to be no lower than 12th THE WHOLE SEASON with a squad tipped for relegation make it unsurprising, if at the end of the season some players looked tired. The effort against Arsenal was phenomenal. The control against 'Uddersfield was a great example of how far we have come. I'm amazed that Doucoure & Capoue could even stand up, let alone chase after citeh players all evening. Still, it's all a matter of opinion by people (i.e. us) who mostly have no idea at all of the complexities of the current game. Running around at 100mph flying into tackles might excite the average supporter, but it doesn't win games in the EPL with the current skill levels of the opposition , the analysis and organisation teams, and playing patterns they practise, and the current mindsets of the officials. For what it is worth, our beloved GT would, in my opinion, have no idea of how to compete effectively in the EPLtoday. However sacrilegious that sounds. I for one am perfectly satisfied that yesterday the players gave everything they could against a team who could overwhelm us and still have Sane, De Bruyne Aguero (Stones even ) on the bench, and Fernandinho not involved and for Mahrez to be irrelevant for most of the game. I could not be more proud of how hard they tried - and with almost no exception - how they played to an unbelievable level of commitment EVERY game this season. I think you would do better to appreciate that we got as far as Wembley (which 9 out of the 10 Premier league teams who finished above us failed to do) and came up against the richest most unequal most unfairly garnered squad that there has ever been in the English football system and who yesterday played to their potential. In fact, the complete one-sidedness on the game may be a blessing in disguise. It might provoke our otherwise useless governing body to think a bit about what is happening to the game in England. How a club team can be owned by a country is a mystery to me. ( I forget. Wasn't honved the hungarian army team once upon a time - arguably owned by a country.) And if they can allow Bassini back into football ownership, I despair, but that is another story. The money, ownership, brandwashing, rule-bending issues might get addressed, if they lead to much more one-sidedness. I could go on.I think that watching citeh is incredibly tedious, when they keep the ball for minutes at a time. Travelling back yesterday, several Citeh supporters said the same thing. It's only the winning that sustains them . Watching is not at all exciting. If that's true, where are we headed ?
I agree with most of your text Bodbo. For me the definition of a 'club' rules out that it is owned by a country or by an individual. Unfortunately the Premier League is open to rich billionaires coming in and buying clubs in a way in which other leagues are not - this is why there is no equivalent of eg. Abramovich in German football, and, keeping in mind that other great European clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona are, more or less, fan owned, it is not surprising that such predatory capital is attracted to England. Of course it is unfair when one club spends so much more than the others over such a long period of time - to the point where they will buy players simply to stop competitors getting them. We call them an English club - but they are neither 'English' nor are they a 'club' according to my understanding of the word. Unfortunately though - your analysis of the unfairness of this also applies to the Premier League in general. The Premiership gave out more money in transfer fees at the last window than the other 4 big European Leagues combined - simply because the Premiership attracts more billionaire sugar daddies. So it is hardly surprising that when Bayern, Real and Barcelona have off years then we will end up with 4 Premier League finalists in European competitions. The Premiership is simply milking off the best talent in Europe (both on the playing and managerial level) - is this fair ? Is it fair that smaller leagues such as the Belgian or Dutch (with once famous clubs such as Ajax, Feyenoord, Anderlecht should have to make do with teenagers or with players coming back for their last couple of years such as Vincent Kompany - with no real talent in between those age groups ? I long for a time when clubs revert to actually being clubs again - which, for me, has something to do with actually having members who control what happens to their clubs rather than them becoming playthings of billionaire sugardaddies. I sincerely hope that EUFA take City to the cleaners for their financial misdealings - it would be nice to think that the FA could do the same but I doubt if they would have the balls.
Well not sure Pep enjoyed himself that much yesterday.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/48327995 Heads in hands when they nicked the 6th and seen telling Sterling off at the end! Never satisfied I guess which probably explains why City are never ones to give up.
Allegedly the prematch pep talk was that any player not giving at least 100% and playing to their best level would not be at the club next season With the size and quality of their squad how can any other team compete with that
Well Sane would walk into any other Premier league team and he is rumoured to be off. Sure they have spent a lot of money and will continue to but you still need the manager and players to be united and want to win all the time. City's owners will demand to win the Champions league. Trouble is whilst they spend well and Liverpool to an extent the rest have fallen behind or in Spurs case don't spend the money they probably need to reach the top.
Next season Man City and Liverpool will be 1st and 2nd Spurs if the manager does leave and they lose Kane, Ali and Eriksen will be top six at best, Chelsea without Haszard and and not being able to replace him will also be top six at best, Arsenal need to rebuild and Man United could even be mid table if they don't match Man City's recent level of spending 3rd to 6th could well be up for grabs if any teams can make the step up needed Watford I think are now at a crossroads, do we stay as we are and be with the Burleys of the Prem just investing enough to avoid relegation and enjoying the odd great season or do the owners invest heavily in a bunch of top class young players who can take us to competing for the top six on a regular basis, the current squad is good enough for the former but the last six games have shown we are no where near the latter Where do Watford supporters want us to be?
My football friends that I had dinner with today are fans of clubs that had their day in the limelight, Middlesbrough, Forest, Charlton and Derby. They did not think that we were bad, just overwhelmed by a billion pound team, against our £60 million one. The difference that they are seeing in wealth when they think about just how they could gain promotion to the top league, and then stay there they find frightening. The Pozzos have a model, buying young players with potential, trying to improve them, then selling them on to keep the finances healthy. I don't expect them to change that, although the money coming to the club from non-player sales is vast compared to the lower league sides. We could afford to buy some better established players now, and probably need to, but I don't expect them to be in the superstar group simply because it could unsettle the existing players with the wages they would demand.
City were ruthless. Surgically precise. I still think Watford played better than in 1984. To win on Saturday needed three things to happen: Watford to be at our best - we weren't; City to have something approaching an off day - they didn't; Watford to get a little bit of of luck and some rub of the green - we didn't. Glad to know our efforts in the stands were appreciated, we at least won the off field battle. Philosophical about the scoreline, not too disappointed with the performance I just thought they were better than us... all in all it didn't ruin my day, tough as it was. As Scott and Gino have pointed out - this is not the beginning of the end but perhaps the end of the beginning....
I think scot said at the last fans forum that he though we would bring in 2 or 3 new players on top of having to replace any 1st teams so i would guess 3 x 10-15m max outlay 45m we have one of the oldest team in the EPL .So i cant see major changes so Ben Wimot or some of the others that are not 1st teams getting more game time
I support pretty much all of the above. Article in today's Guardian (2 actually) suggesting Saturday was a pretty bad day for football as we know it. However, it's not just here. This is the first season that ALL 5 of the winners (England, France, Germany, pain & Italy) were the same as last season. I suppose we could add Scotland to that, but i'm being serious! Maybe, just maybe it will bring about changes - the FA certainly won't have enjoyed seeing their day in the sun be so miserably one-sided. Anyway, how proud I am to be a HORNET!
Yes I read that article (its ok I don't really read the Gardian), hopefully the opinion will gather some moment.
Beware what you are wishing for, If the top 5/6 go off to a super league then the TV money goes with them and we have high wages to pay .Our owners are football people but they only have 100M not 1B so they would off load us we would have to let players leave for next to nothing .And i can hear people saying" are but its for the good of football." Im very happy whats good for Watford
I wasn't comparing Everton '84 and City 2019.... I was comparing Watford's performances - and imho we were miles better Saturday than we were in 84. City would have put 12 past us on that performance.
Yes back in the 80s there was not a top 6 The level today is so much higher .How many of the guys that played in 84 would get in todays side ?
I think Saturday is the most praise I've ever heard our fans get from others. Defiant in defeat - just wanting to leave a mark on our "day out" - has anyone seen the 6th goal yet!? And apparently Stones missed a sitter for 7...
I have only looked as far as the pererya shot.. And IMO it was a great save.. PERERYA takes no blame.. Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
