The feeling from fans there were that we were out played.. Clearly tired and gomes seemed very disheartened... But there was no feeling that the team were underperforming.. I wonder really about our tactics... But for 20 minutes in the first half and the first 10 in the second we matched them.. And if one chance had been better taken all may have been different.. But as one moderator of a FB forum has said let's not dispute amongst each other.. The deed is done, the players did what they could and it has been our best ever season in the Prem.. In answer to your last question - yes, more or less. We always appear to go out with an inferiority complex against them - as if our main intention is simply keeping the score down, which lots of other teams don't do. You say we looked tired, yet ever since the Wolves semi final we have looked as if the season was over and we were saving ourselves for this one day.
Just back from the game. Yes we were poor at times and when an attacking move broke down, City broke and scored three of their goals. The most disappointing thing for me was we had no variation in attack. When we had a free kick or corner we just looked to cross it into the box. City coped easily with that and we should have given them something else to think about. Heads went down after second goal and dropped further and further as each goal was conceded.
I do think that today there is probably too much raw emotion, but by tomorrow we might be better able to look at how we perform in many games, not just this one, because there are problems that need addressing. The defence has been a problem against many teams, and if you look at how we try to overcome it you can see how it creates other problems. Much of our attacking play comes through the Deeney flick ons, but after the first minutes of each half he hardly won a thing against Kompany. I could go on, but at a later date might be better.
Been a graat season.. Not the best it could have been.. But hats off to the club and the players and coaching staff for getting us where they did... Sent from my F8331 using Tapatalk
I loved it - first FA Cup Final and it was amazing regardless of the result. Yes we were outclassed but we knew we would be. City were sensational. Every time we had a chance they disrupted it and when they had one they took it. But we know what our club is and what it stands for - and the support was off the scale today. Every City fan I spoke to couldn't believe it.
for team for dissapointing score for the absolutely amazing supporters it looked fantastic on Tv. I am in Spain for bother in laws and step mother in laws birthdays, which is turning out to be a 4 day eat and drinkathon . Wore my Watford shirt all day. Could not find anywhere to watch the game so resigned to watching on my pad. At the lunch eatathon someone noticed the shirt and asked if I was going to watch the game, I said no and got an invite to his house to watch it there, much happiness, everything turned out well in the end. Such a pity Pereya did not score but Edderson was superb all game. Team tried hard and did not really give up, but they seemed a bit tierd and listless and did not hassle City enough, although getting the ball of them is bloody difficult. TD seemed out of sorts when we needed him. Gomes could not really be blamed for the goals and I am glad he played. I too think we would have been better taking the game to City and having a go as they don't like it when it happens even if we got thrashed. Lets face it we have had a great season overall so I am not too glum. I will say it again the supporters yesterday were magnificent especially when we were 6-0, I felt really proud, that is what we are about.
Also worth agreeing/noting that Pererya's chance was well defended .. another time he would have scored........ Amazing day out..... and totally draining too.... I loved the Watford support... and hats off to the 1881....
People have said on various forums other teams seem to cope better with City but we jus don't have the defensive abilities to sit back and hold on or keep it tight as they say. Then when we did attack the final pass or finish was poor and we got caught out on the break. For all City's excellent play I think 3/4 of the goals were down to us losing the ball and they scored from our own free kick inside their half. Is that just sloppy play/poor organisation against a world class team?
I also spoke with several City fans who could not believe our amazing support throughout game but particulary at 5 and then six down. Hats off to all Watford fans, you were not only the 12th but also 13th many yesterday it was that good.
Statement from the club: To all Watford supporters around the world – and especially those 32,500 of our fans inside Wembley Stadium yesterday for the FA Cup Final – we offer our sincere thanks for your unwavering unity with the team, our coach, the players and the club. It was humbling not just to witness a sea of flags accompanied by proud voices everywhere across our half of the stadium, but then to also look around the Royal Box and notice the applause being offered towards the actions of our supporters. This moment truly served to put into context just how far we have come together as a football club. We said right back in 2012 that if we are together then we can achieve great things. We have – and we will continue to do so. The achievement of reaching an FA Cup Final and having a chance to compete for one of just three titles available to clubs inside the confines of this country should never be diminished by yesterday’s game itself or indeed the final scoreline. Of course we will all reflect on what could have been had circumstances been different at various points during the 90 minutes, but those thoughts will be lost over time. What will never be forgotten is how our supporters reminded us what a truly special club we all serve. This is just the start of the club’s journey competing against the best. We may not always be able to be successful, like yesterday, but we will not go away and will return unbowed, with renewed vigour and determination, to improve on the feats of this season. It is in our power that we will be stronger for all of yesterday’s experiences, and with our continued ambitions to see Watford Football Club loved by an ever-increasing family of supporters around the world then nothing can stop us from being successful together. Here’s to a bright and vibrant 2019/20 as we continue to respect our past and seek to create history in the future. Once again, our heartfelt thanks to all Watford supporters. Gino Pozzo and Scott Duxbury Owner and Chairman, Watford Football Club
I didn’t even see the 6th goal because there were so many flags. Didn’t really care by then though and had sort of given up watching the game! Thought our support right from the off was fantastic. A great experience if not the result. People asking me if I was embarrassed. No, to anyone else maybe, but not to that City side.
The club's PR and social media activity has been fantastic this week. I know for some fans popularity isn't that big a deal but I kind of like the fact that very few clubs and supporters actively dislike us!
Quality response from the City fans all clapping our 10 mins of flag waving and singing at the end. A real piece of understanding from one set of genuine fans to another.
