The second half of last season (after VVD arrived) suggests we weren't a team that was 25pts behind Man City (in terms of squad ability) despite what the final table said.
I didn't comment on why you were. It backs up my point that just because you finish 4th and 25 points behind doesn't necessarily reflect as a 'crap squad' or that you're not capable of mounting a title challenge the following season.
I understood what you were saying. I don't believe that 25pt gap from last season was a true reflection of the gap between Liverpool and Man City prior the summer though.
I know Astro is applying it to this specific season which is fair enough, whereas I'm comparing things hypothetically. I still believe that even with this squad had you finished 4th this season it wouldn't be a reflection of a 'crap squad' and it wouldn't have hindered a title challenge next season. There could be many other reasons, for example an injury to Salah and Mane or if the ANC was on and both disappeared to that for a month, or that finishing 4th wouldn't necessarily have meant 27 points gap either as it could be points dropped in games against Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea which weren't.
I'd have to agree yes squad quality and other measures like what your wage bill in do align with where you.finish... but... a lot of circumstances come together o put a side 4th verses 3rd. look at spurs some seasons... out of cups early so focus solely.on league... verses us.. in Europa, in cl, etc etc we have basically rested players in league and scraped by for 4th 2 years running. we were out of cups early both last season for example if we'd finished 4th say this year AND had 2 cups.. well what might happened as it could be 10.points total for example.difference
Jose Mourinho says Manchester United's problems down to players, organisation and ambition https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11720549/jose-mourinho-says-manchester-uniteds-problems-down-to-players-organisation-and-ambition
Leeds are out. Not coming up to the premiership. I am not disappointed. I've never liked the type of fans who follow them nor the type of football they play.
Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire are neighbouring counties mate. Mansfield (in Notts) & Chesterfield (in Derby) are rivals, much like Nottm Forest & Derby County are. Nothing to do with any of that though, I just don't like them. I know a few Derby fans, much like I know Nottm Forest fans, I don't like Forest either. PS... Jimmy is from Derby too
So far, all the teams that were away in the second leg have progressed in the playoffs. Bookies for the League One games anyone?
